Day 20:
(South Carolina)This is so exciting! I am on the run with five other people. Sara is with me along with my brother, Joseph, Diana, and the stable boy, Cal.
My brother is not my actual brother. He is the boy that took me in. I was eight when I met him. Tate. He would always call me Wildflower. Maybe because that is when he first met me, I had a flower in my hair and was dancing around like a mad woman.
We are almost at the border of South Carolina. Next up, North Carolina. Then, Virginia. Next, West Virginia. On to Pennsylvania. And finally, freedom.
We used to only have to go to the North to be free, but times have changed and we have to go all the way to Canada.
We sit in the bushes. It is difficult to write because we dare not light a fire in fear of being caught. Everyone is asleep except for me and Joseph, though I suspect Tate isn't asleep either, but I can't be sure. Joseph is on watch incase any bounty hunters find us.
My shift is next so I might as well stay awake.
When I decided to write a journal, I didn't expect to go on an adventure! I write the days down so I keep track of time. I don't know dates because no one bothered to tell me. I think it is sometime in September. I can't be sure, maybe late August. All I know is that fall is close. And then winter. Anyways, I feel it is easier to write about the present instead of the past, so from this point on, I will write my story like it is happening at the moment. I believe it will be easier for me to reread after this is all over. It will be like reliving the moment.
Did I mention that I hate hiking? My legs feel dead right now. My momma always said that I have strong calfs, but they still ache. I need to lay down. Good-bye for now.
