"Where are we going?" I decided to ask.
"My friend is having a party but-" He taps the steering wheel. "You're not exactly dressed for one."
I look down at my clothes and black slippers. He's right but, in my defense, I didn't know I'd end up in this situation. Ashton and my parents made me so angry that I just needed to get out of the house immediately. And no one except Calum answered my phone call this late. Now that I think about it, he was probably at that party before I called. I wonder what he was doing. Dancing? Drinking? Maybe even making out with-
"Want to go to my apartment?"
Realization washed over me. What am I doing? It's 2 in the morning and I'm alone...with Calum...in his car. This isn't me. I wouldn't do these type of things. Did he just say his apartment? Fuck, he must've misunderstood.
"Listen. I don't want to hook up with you. At all. I was just mad and you were my only escape from there. I'm sorry." I blurted. It's better to clear things up before it gets worse.
"Woah. That wasn't my intention, I swear."
"It obviously was. Why else would you invite me over?" I let go of his hand and instantly felt the warmth be replaced by the cool air.
"Can you blame me?" He places both hands on the steering wheel and makes a turn. "You've been giving me mixed signals all week. What am I supposed to think?"
I let out a sigh as I run my fingers through my hair. What do I say to that?
"You're right. I'm sorry."
"I'll take you back."
"No!" I grab his arm. He slows down the car and parks to the side. "I'll go..."
"Go where?"
"To your apartment." The words left my mouth before I could think twice.

I looked up at the tall building before me. There were about five others just like it; tall, beige colored bricks, luxurious balconies with spotless glass sliding doors. The courtyard I stand on is decorated with a variety of flowers and few palm trees here and there. And to top it all off behind these beautiful buildings was a large lake. I never knew this part of the city had such amazing apartments.
"Are your parents sleeping?" I turn to Calum. He bites his lower lip and stuffs his hands in his pockets. "What? What does that mean?" I cross my arms.
"My parents... are currently on the other side of the world." He takes out his car keys from his pocket and spins it around his finger. I think my stomach just dropped.
"Oh."
"Let's go inside already. You're getting goosebumps from the cold." He places his hand on the small of my back and leads me. It's not from the cold, I think to myself.
When we approach the glass doors, with his keys still in his hand he pushes a few numbers on the keypad that's installed into the wall.
Click.
I was about to reach for the long door handle but Calum beat me to it, smoothly opening the door for me. I stepped inside, welcomed by the faint aroma of lavender.
"Wow. This is nice."
"This way."
We waited in front of the elevator doors. I look up at Calum with an awkward smile. He doesn't return it instead he stares intently, possibly trying to figure something out. Hopefully he's not thinking about how to get me in bed because that's never going to happen.
