Devil's Smile

Months had passed since the attack, the war on the back foot due to the Sakura Empire rebuilding from Midway.

Midway sat in a jail cell, flipping a coin like normal, relaxed, with a simple, almost devilish smile on his face. Minneapolis, who was charged with keeping an eye on him, often found him boring, but she knew that he was a schemer. He had that aura to him, someone who planned many steps ahead.

She wasn't the only one who couldn't shake the feeling of it either. Enterprise, Cleveland, Belfast, and Illustrious all knew that Midway was plotting something.

The sound of the coin flipping yet again finally ticked Minneapolis off, and she shouted, "Stop flipping that damn coin!"

"Oh? And what will you do about it?" Midway retorted with the same sly smile.

Minneapolis considered going in there and ripping it out of his hands, but reconsidered due to Midway's tricky nature. "You're luck we need you." She stated.

"You only need my ship."

"Yes. Now, again. What are the armory codes?" She asked Midway.

A slight chuckle was heard as Midway then said, "None of you are ready for what I am armed with."

The sly yellow eyes met hers, and the feeling of something off was immense again. "What are you planning?"

"Why ask? Best not to spoil the surprise, I'll just show it eventually." Midway responded.

Midway turned around and looked out the window, seeing his ship being repaired. Someone suggested removing the ship from his command and using it as a production ship.

It would've been a good idea if Midway didn't have a wisdom cube. That ship was him, as he was the ship. He made it appear he lost control, but a patient person waits for the right moment to strike. No matter how long.

Minneapolis looked at the clock. It was finally a change in guard rotation, and she left the cell area. Midway smiled as he looked at the cameras.

He crunched a coin in his hands, and the displays started to go static. Salt Lake City, who was watching the cameras, assumed it was just a technical issue.

Midway took another coin out of his pocket and then walked up to the cell door. He slotted the coin into the lock and then undid a match from his hair.

"Now, kids, here we get to see what happens when you add a spark."

"To thermite."

A shower of sparks started raining from the fake coin as it then blew apart the cell door lock. Midway nonchalantly pushed it open and said, "And that's why you always carry thermite."

Midway continued walking away and started looking around for supplies and hiding from patrols. He only had about 10 minutes to gather everything and make himself scarce.

A distraction would be needed, so he rushed to the armory and stole some plastic explosives, fuses, and a remote detonator. Crafting them together, he finally made an improvised explosive and mounted it on a nearby fuel tank.

Midway hid underneath a parked truck as another group of girls went by, and he looked at his watch. "Strange. They should've noticed by n..."

An alarm started ringing throughout the base, and the voice of Saratoga sounded out. "All hands, all hands. A prisoner has broken out and is on the loose. He is considered armed and dangerous."

"Heh, speak of the devil."

The girls started running everywhere to find him as he chuckled and kept to the shadows.
