I expected a little too much. My Aaliyah did not understand me, she only stated she could see me for clarity. She looked up at me, clearly in awe at the height difference. I near the ceiling as she could barely reach half my body.
We stood in a lingered silence as she admired me, and I was only filled with confusion.
"You saved me." Her full lips smile, rendering me as nothing but a lovestruck fool as I took in her beauty.
It was one thing watching her without her being aware of me, but the kind eyes that met me softened me to nothing. Was I a fool? I wonder.
Her sultry voice pulled me from my thoughts, causing me to tilt my head at her words. "Thank you," she said, making her way over to where she had placed her clothing.
After removing the mesh overall, she pulled on her clothes and stuffed the mesh into her handbag. She turned to the door, about to walk away, but she paused before turning to look at me. "Aren't you coming, handsome?" she asked. I only grumbled softly before taking a glide forward then another, following the beauty out of the hotel room without a single thought on whether it was a case that other humans could see me.
It was only when we encountered a woman frozen in time while walking down the hall that I realized this may have been something happening throughout the area, possibly the world. Was this something I would have to actively stop? Or would it eventually wear off on its own?
"This is mental, bruv!" my Aaliyah exclaims in a laugh.
We now stood before the elevator, but as she pressed the button, we quickly came to realize it would not work with the time seized.
Without a word, she made for the stairs, and I followed like a lost puppy. To think I am a being beyond human comprehension, yet I could feel no bruise in pride as this little human leads the way to only she knows where. I was okay with being at her frock tale, I was okay with not being of any significance in leading my own actions. Was this comfort? I wonder.
I followed her until we got to her pickup, a large thing I never understood the reason for one as dainty as her to drive, but here we were. I Death was being instructed to get into the back of said pickup as the world itself seized around us. But as the thought occurred to me that she was safe and away from the old stick, everything gained movement and the pickup roared to life.
Looking at my Aaliyah in the driver's seat, she smiles at me, urging me to get in and I turn, transporting myself into the back and standing as I watch the moving city, lights, vehicles and people going about their business. But as the truck drives off with me, I take the moment to look to the dark skies, enamoured as always by the endless abyss of twinkling lights.
And for the first time in my entire existence... Something that I could only describe as serenity filled me as the cold air whisked through my cloak.
I was noticed by the human that stole my very essence... I was noticed by the human that I fell solely and utterly in love with.
For the first time as Death, I myself... I wanted to die.
~
I wasn't sure what was happening or what was to. My Aaliyah had invited me into her home and as the lost entity I am, I had entered. I was not sure what to do, but I wanted to be within her presence, even more so as she knew of my existence and didn't scramble in fear as I assume many would in the face of Death.
Instead, she behaved as if I were a very normal occurrence in her life, possibly a friend. To be her friend would be nice, but I long to be more than that. I long to be her significant other, a being she could confide in, feel welcome to, and be one with. A sunken feeling takes over as the possibility of that ever happening and making sense dampens my mood.
