I usually don't write fics this long, because I'm quite lazy, but this has been surprisingly fun. I hope you enjoy!
Also, I might to a oneshot sequel at some point, if I can be bothered.

Tommy snapped into consciousness quickly, certainly much faster than when he’d first woken in his little cage. He looked around once more, before giving himself a once-over. He still couldn’t quite comprehend his situation, even after three days of being a cat.
He batted his paws tiredly at the cage wall as he waited for Dream to bring him his breakfast, which was always that same horrid cat food in a metal bowl. Still, it was growing on him. Tommy found the humiliation of eating from a cat bowl had lessened since his first meal, though the taste remained ghastly, and the sleeping pills remained a part of his daily routine.
It was odd, how their little routine had changed so much yet so little. Dream usually fed Tommy his breakfast in the morning (as a sensible person would) and then left for whatever Dream did outside of home, before returning and feeding him once more. Normally, Tommy slept after his evening meal, though not during the day, which Tommy could deal with.
Tommy found life so much more palatable as a cat: no responsibilities, getting to run around all day and not having to make his own food? A lot easier than the fighting and hunting he was used to, that was for sure.
Tommy wished Dream would just leave the cage door open like a normal person would, like the average person with a cat would, but instead the asshole would lock him in at night after his sleeping pills did their job. That was the worst of their relationship, after Tommy had gotten over the whole cat food thing.
After a few minutes of waiting, footsteps echoes through the house, ringing inside his head like beautiful bells. Tommy could barely contain his excitement! Dream, his favourite person in the whole wide world was coming to give him food!
Tommy’s stomach rumbled inelegantly, which Dream laughed at as he rounded the corner.
“Is someone hungry?” He asked, bending down to unlock the cage with the speed and grace of a speedrunner.
Tommy nodded at his friend, and Dream unlocked the cage with a soft clang.
He ran out of the cage, nuzzling into Dream’s side to show his joy, and they began to walk into the kitchen, where Dream would start to prepare his food.
Once they’d walked the 15 second walk into the kitchen, Dream pulled out a sachet of what Tommy knew was cat food. While he couldn’t exactly read the text written on it considering his nigh-illiteracy, the picture of a cat and his prior knowledge made Tommy sure of what it was.
Dream pulled out his bowl, which was all clean from the night before, and poured the cat food into it with an unappealing splat.
“You enjoy this, Patches.” He muttered sleepily as Tommy’s first mouthful of food hit his tongue, the taste as salty and beefy as he remembered. While it wasn’t particularly good, Tommy could certainly stomach it, and so silently ate his meal.
Once the bowl was empty, Dream lifted up the bowl and Tommy prepared himself for Dream’s usual speech, wishing cats could block their ears.
“Good boy!” Dream exclaimed, which Tommy took as a win despite the patronising tone he took.
Tommy nestled into Dream’s leg, though this time he was brushed off. He pouted and looked up at him, deploying kitty-eyes at the older man.
“No, Patches, I need to get going. You have some of your milk and be a good boy, okay?” Dream asked, not expecting an answer.
