I went home and there was still no sign of my mom. I called her cell again, this time there was an answer.
"Mom? Mom! It's me Alaska."
There was heavy breathing. "Hi honey."
"Where are you?!"
"I'm visiting your father and Dodge."
"When will you be home?" I asked.
"I won't. I'm joining the military. I'm sorry honey, I couldn't tell you."
I gasped. She could die...
"Mom, my school is going to-"
"I know. I'm meeting you there with Dodge after the fight against Russia. Which is the fifth fight."
"That could take years."
"Plenty of them."
"Okay... Well I love you momma." I started crying.
"I know. I love you too Kas." She sniffled.
I hung up and went upstairs to go pack. I had nothing here to leave anyway, besides the house. The source of my childhood and life.
I grabbed my RIMOWA suitcase, (it was like $500. Don't judge. I guess you can consider my family rich.) and went to the bathroom. I started packing my toiletries and makeup and perfume. Then I headed to my room and packed up as many clothes as I could. I packed two pairs of shoes and then grabbed a few things like pictures and memory type stuff that I can't live without. I grabbed a stash of money we kept, including mine which in all was about $2000. Then I went to my mom's room and grabbed some shit from there and grabbed some food from the kitchen. I put my suitcase next to the door and took a quick shower and went to bed.
When I woke up, it was ten minutes until I had to be at school. Shit! I quickly ran to my closet and got dressed in my pink and gray Under Armour sweatpants with a pink Nike sweatshirt and some black UA socks with my black and white Nike slides. No makeup, but I toss my hair into a messy ponytail with a headband and grab my coffee and suitcase and phone and run to school.
I'm late. Not too late to where the transportation leaves, though. Panting, I find Mr. Jones and ask him where to go. "There you are! I was worried. Tyler, Kenny, and Olivia are in a red car with this license plate number. I'll let them know you're on your way." He gave me a slip of paper.
I find the car a few feet away and hop in. They smile and wave. "We were worried." I nodded quickly. "Me too."
There were two people on the floor, Tyler's sister and Kenny's mother I think.
I was sitting in the front by the driver, who was the librarian. I put my suitcase under my feet. "Hello." I say.
"Hello." She replies.
"I forgot my suitcase." Olivia nods sadly.
"I am so sorry!" I exclaim.
"It's okay. Kenny and his family gave me $100."
"It's all I had." His mother says.
"Here." I say dealing her $500.
"No way! Thank you!" She says.
I smile. "No problem."
I text my mom that I made it and I look back at my friends. This was life now.
"How are we passing the Mexican border?" I asked.
"Panama has sent orders to let cars with passports through. So us drivers have passports so we can go through."
I nodded. "Nice."
"Why aren't we in buses?" Tyler asked, who was wearing fluffy pink footie pajamas with UGGs.
"We don't want it to look too obvious. We got a few buses, for the freshman."
She nodded.
"Well, it's time to go guys. This is going to be a long trip."
A long trip. She was right. But would it be more than that? Emotional? Boring?
