Fool Me Once...

Is STUPID printed on my face

sometimes I think it's so

I try my best to think you true

and yet you're not I know

In all the years that you've known me

I've always had your back

Seems every time I give you aid

I'm left holding the sack

You have many grand ideas

but never see them through

And those you drag along with you

oft have much to rue

You won't start where others do

and work your way along

You think you know much more than he

who made the business strong

I've seen you lie straight to my face

you knew I knew the truth

Something's broke inside your head

maybe from your youth

Now you've run so far away

and left a mess for me

Your responsibilities blown off

foot loose and fancy free

I pick the pieces off the ground

you've tossed around and scattered

It's now my job to make whole

the dream you almost shattered

I paint a picture of a man

who's only for himself

In spite of this strong anger

I put it on the shelf

I have known and tried to guard

against your depredation

I try to fix those who've been caught,

your path of devastation

I am angry... that will pass

and this I know is true

When you face the final cost

you'll know that it's all you
