The next day, we headed for the boat and made our way into the ocean. The sail was somewhat awkward - neither of us seemed to know what to say after what had happened last night.
I only mustered one thing, which was a 'thank you', to which Buggy just gave me a small smile.
Back on the boat, tensions were still high. It seemed easier for Buggy to be mean to me now that we weren't as good of friends. Still, in the darkness of his bedroom, he was still soft with me. He just kept his distance.
Two more months passed by as we sailed. I spent most of my time with Dilly and the rainbow clown, in the navigation room where I led them on the route we were to take. It was fun, at times. It was nice to have friends.
Especially since everyone else seemed to hate me still. The dirty looks I got only increased as time went by. Even with Buggy being so harsh to me, the hatred seemed to grow ever more.
Finally, we reached a new shore. I was relieved. The sea sickness never seemed to lessen, no matter how long I spent on the boat. But as usual, there was still a nervousness. A new town meant new destruction, new chaos to inflict on innocent people.
When the boat reached shore, Buggy gave me a wide grin. "You better get your winter coat."
I saw what he meant immediately. The island we had landed at was coated in a thick layer on snow. Sure, we had felt the snow on the boat, but it was nothing compared to how snowed up this island was.
A clown gave us a dirty look and Buggy seemed to remember he was supposed to be mean to me. "Because I know you're stupid enough to walk onto this island in shorts."
Not his best insult but I pretended to be hurt, and some clowns smiled to each other, clearly enjoying any cruelty towards me.
I did as Buggy had instructed. I donned on my big thick winter coat, warm trousers, boots and even a knitted hat. The only thing I didn't have was gloves, which I immediately regretted as I could feel my fingers were already ice cold.
Outside, everyone was boarding the town. I noticed that Buggy had stayed behind for me. When he was sure nobody was looking, he gave me a hand onto the plank. He couldn't help but be a gentleman to me. I loved it.
There was no immediate town in sight. The map had said there was a small mountain town, dense and well off. Part of me hoped the map was mis-marked. That way, I wouldn't have to feel any guilt.
"Did your town ever get snow?" Buggy suddenly asked me.
He was standing weird. He was guarded, his hands behind his back as if he were hiding something.
I tried to keep my distance. "No. It was also too hot for snow or ice."
"So you know nothing about snow?:
"I guess not."
"So you don't know what a snow ball is?"
"What's -"
I didn't get to finish my sentence because all of a sudden, I saw a flash of white before my hands before I was struck with coldness. It didn't hurt. It was just cold and wet.
Buggy, and a bunch of his clowns began to laugh at me. I still wasn't sure what had happened.
"That's playing dirty," Dilly suddenly said, grabbing me and pulling me away. "He's rotten!"
"What did he hit me with?"
"Snow."
"But how?" I asked, more to myself than anyone else. I kneeled down, scooped some snow into my hand and tried to throw it. It just fell down. It was too heavy.
Dilly kneeled down beside me. "You have to tightly pack it. Here."
So, she showed me how to do it. Once she did, it seemed to obvious. I felt like an idiot for not figuring it out sooner.
"Buggy's not looking," I whispered to her, as we both held snow balls in our hands.
Dilly knew exactly what I was planning. We mouthed a count of three and launched the snow at Buggy. Dilly's aim was much better than mine.
Hers hit Buggy right in the face, whereas mine hit his arm. He gave us this dramatic look, his mouth hanging open.
"Hey!"
"Payback, sucker!" Dilly cheered.
Buggy didn't wait, he immediately began to collect snow, so me and Dilly did the same. What ensued was a massive snow fight. Slowly, other clowns began to join in, and it became a full-out war.
Still, I kept my sights on Buggy. He kept his sights on me, too. We kept aiming for one another, hiding behind trees and only looking out for one another.
At one point, I lost track of him. He was behind a tree one second but when I approached it, I found no one behind it.
That's when I was suddenly tackled to the ground by him.
"Got you!" He screamed, smashing snow into my face.
"Buggy! I hate you, oh my god!" I yelled back, laughing as I tried to push him away.
He ended up on top of me, basically straddling me, as he shovelled snow onto my face. His attack on me didn't last long because Dilly came to my aid.
She managed to push him off me. Me and her immediately attacked him back, throwing as much snow as we could manage at him.
I wished that snow fight could have lasted forever. It was so much fun. But all things have to end. When it did, we were all shivering, wet and cold.
Everyone was in a good mood, though. Buggy, sneakily, handed me his gloves. I gave him a puzzled look.
"You look cold," was all he said.
With that, we headed off to look for the nearest town.
