Prologue

All the pleasure I have ever known in my life disappears, replaced by a horrible, unbearable pain.
My mind explodes and my legs collapse beneath me.
A blinding light covers my path for a moment, before being replaced by darkness.
Strong arms wrap around my waist and haul me up through the darkness until light finally enters my vision.
I turn questioning eyes up to my saviour but they soon turn wide in amazement.
Beside me my husband's existence is passing even quicker than mine yet all I can think about is the frightened child in my arms.
Air chokes me and the pain erupts once more before I meld into the darkness again, perhaps never to return.
