At the Morgue
As Jonathan was at work at 10 a.m. the next day, still bored out of his mind and wanting someone to whisk him away from his loneliness and boredom, he got startled when he heard a voice say: "Bored?"
He looked at Stiles standing right in front of him, giving him a cheeky grin.
"When did you come here? How did you...? You know what, never mind", said Jonathan. He knew there was no reason to be shocked as to how Stiles came to know of his boredom, since he must've been looking as bored as he was feeling.
"You didn't answer my question", stated Stiles.
"What question?"
"Bored?" Stiles repeated.
"Utterly."
"So, the other three employees at work... they'll handle the café if you aren't there, surely? It's not like there's a rush here anyways", Stiles said, looking around.
Jonathan furrowed his eyebrows and asked, "Wait. Why wouldn't I be here? Where will I go?"
"Oh, it's... a case. Larson phoned me... Detective Inspector, Scotland Yard", Stiles clarified on seeing Jonathan's puzzled expression, "... told me there's been... six murders on a single day at different places in different ways."
"Well, that... seems like an interesting case", said Jonathan.
"Oh, it's an interesting case alright. And I thought I might as well get you to accompany me, since you have officially said you want to be my Watson, and it's the first case I've got since I met you. Also, you seem to be terribly lonely and bored, so you may as well come with me. If it's fine with you", Stiles added as an afterthought.
"Of course, I'm coming with you. Let me just... Clara!" he called out to a girl. She was taking a customer's order, and when she was done, she came to him.
"What happened, John? Everything alright?"
"Yeah, just... I'll have to leave right now, don't know when I'll be back. You three will handle everything?"
"Yeah", replied Clara, "but is everything alright? Has there been a problem?" Then, she seemed to notice Stiles for the first time. "Oh, uh, hello sir, what do you... wait", she seemed to be connecting the dots. One could almost see the cogs whirring in her brain, and could almost see a bulb light up. "Ah, so you are going with this gentleman here?"
"Yes", replied Jonathan.
"Ok." Suddenly, Clara's eyes sparkled up and she giggled.
"What happened?" asked Stiles.
Clara looked at Jonathan, then at Stiles, then back at Jonathan again. "I didn't know you swung that way", Jonathan's eyes went wide like saucers when he realized Clara misunderstood everything. Just before he could even begin to profusely shake his head, she smiled and said, "Whatever. Have a nice date. Enjoy." Having said that, she walked away happily.
"What's with people assuming detectives and their assistants being in relationships?" asked Jonathan, staring at Clara, who was happily whispering something to Charlie and Winslet.
"We'll never know", said Stiles, staring at the three of them huddled together and the customer staring at them annoyedly. "But we have to go now", saying this, Stiles held Jonathan's hand and went out of the café, and Jonathan could've sworn he heard Winslet squealing.
As they were inside a cab, Jonathan asked Stiles: "Where are we going?"
Stiles stayed silent.
"You said that there've been 6 murders, each at a different location. So, where are we going first?"
