You were always the kind of person who felt like you were living in the shadow of someone else.

Your life was a constant struggle with self-doubt, and you couldn't help but compare yourself to her—Jihyo.

She was the embodiment of everything you wished you could be. Her beauty, her confidence, and the way she effortlessly charmed everyone around her were like a constant reminder of your own inadequacy.

It all started in your high school literature class. You were working on a group project, and she was assigned to your group.

Jihyo's presence was magnetic, and you couldn't help but feel invisible when she walked into the room.

—"Hi, I'm Jihyo,"

she said, her smile radiating warmth and confidence.

You mumbled your name, your voice barely audible in her presence.

From that day forward, you became acquaintances, but it was clear that she had no idea how much she affected you.

As time passed, your feelings for Jihyo grew, but so did that voice inside your head that get telling you you weren't good enough.

You couldn't escape the constant comparison between yourself and her.

It felt like an unending cycle of self-loathing, and you knew you'd never be good enough for someone like Jihyo.

One evening, as you were hanging out at her place for a school project, she turned to you with a vulnerable look in her eyes.

"Y/N, can I ask you something?"

Jihyo said her eyes going from yours to your lips.

Your heart raced, and you nodded, feeling a surge of hope that maybe she saw something in you.

—"Of course, Jihyo. Anything."

She sighed and looked down at her hands.

"I've been having some problems with Daniel lately. We argue a lot, and I don't know if our relationship is working. What do you think I should do?"

Your heart ached for her, and the self-doubt gnawed at your soul.

You wanted her to be happy, but you couldn't bear to express your true feelings.

"Jihyo, I think you should do what's best for you. If you're not happy in the relationship, maybe it's time to reevaluate it."

Tears welled up in her eyes, pulling you into a tight embrace as she started sobbing out.

As the days turned into weeks, you continued to support Jihyo as she went through her relationship.

You were there for her when things got tough, offering a shoulder to cry on and words of encouragement.

But as you watched her struggle, you couldn't help but feel like a shadow, always in her periphery, never the main focus.

One fateful night, Jihyo called you, her voice trembling.

"Y/N, I did it. I broke up with Daniel."

Your heart ached as you listened to her, and a small part of you hoped that maybe, just maybe, she would see you differently now.

"Are you okay, Jihyo?"

She sighed, a mixture of relief and sadness in her voice.

"I think it's for the best, but it's still hard. Thanks for being there for me, Y/N. You mean so much to me."

The words stung, and you realized that you were stuck in a cycle of unrequited love and self-loathing. "You mean a lot to me too, Jihyo."

As the days turned into weeks, your bond with Jihyo remained strong, but your insecurity continued to eat away at you. You couldn't escape the feeling that you were never more than a supporting character in her life, and it hurt more with each passing day.

One evening, as you watched the sunset together, you mustered the courage to speak your truth.

"Jihyo, there's something I need to tell you."

She turned to you, her eyes filled with curiosity.

"What is it, Y/N?"

You took a deep breath and confessed,

"Jihyo, though i've been here with you for a while trying to support you, i've been having my own feelings, and i really think i just need some time alone for a while, not just from you, but from others."

Jihyo's expression shifted, and she seemed taken aback.

"Y/N, I had no idea you felt that way. Why didn't you tell me?"

"I just needed to be honest with you. There's so much i want to tell you, but i don't think i'm good enough to do so, i'm sorry."

Jihyo reached out and gently took your hand.

"Y/N, you're an amazing person, and I care about you deeply. I've been blind to the wonderful qualities you have."

Hope flickered in your heart, but it was overshadowed by years of insecurity.

"Jihyo, I appreciate your words, but I can't help feeling like I'll always be second best. I love you, and i always will."

You said as you left Jihyo stranded, mentally beating yourself up for pushing her away like that, but you couldn't hold these feelings in anymore, the feeling of being rejected eating you alive, but the love you have for her consuming you. Maybe it was for the best to leave.
