I woke up to the alarm, which made me groan in annoyance. I slowly got off the bed, rubbing my eyes as Mike stopped the alarm and rewinded his "nature sounds" tape. "Morning babe" I said giving Mike a kiss on his forehead. He mumbled in response and I went to the restroom to do my business. I walked back in the room to see Mike doing pushups. I chuckled and changed into some casual clothing before going to the kitchen to make breakfast

"Y/n. Abby isn't listening to me. She needs to get up and ready can you tell her please?" Mike asked me, sitting on the table to put on his shoes. I looked at Mike and saw he had a hole in his sock, so his big toe was sticking out. "Remind me to buy you socks soon okay?" I said patting his leg before walking to Abbys room

"Abs? Are you getting ready?" I called to her using her nickname. She was still in her fort pretending to sleep. I sighed and walked up to the fort. "Abby you have to get up in the next 5 minutes... I made your favorite breakfast!" I said the last part in a sing-song tone. She immediately shot up and looked at me. "I don't believe you" she said squinting her eyes

"Whatever you say. But if you don't get ready soon, i'm going to eat it all!" I said walking towards the door. She quickly got out of the fort and started getting ready. I smiled and walked to the kitchen to see Mike eating his food. I served Abby a plate of food and placed it on the table for her. Mikes tie was still undine so I decided to tie it for him while he ate his food

"Here let me help you out" I said grabbing a chair. I put the chair in front of Mike and started tying his tie. Midway through I noticed he was staring at me; but he wasn't smiling. "Whats wrong." I asked him finishing up his tie. I fixed his collar and straightened his tie before putting my hands behind his neck

"What if I can't find another job?" He told me in a sad tone. I gave him peck on the lips and reassured him he was going to find a job. "And if you can't one i'll find one. And if we both find one, that's even better! We could just hire a babysitter for Abby" I whispered the last part so Abby wouldn't hear me. Just then she walked into the kitchen and sat down to eat her food

"Can I have that chair please!" She asked me, hinting at the chair I was sitting in. I got up from the chair and placed it in front of her food so she could sit. She thanked me and I smiled at her before crouching down to sit on my knees. Abby giggled at my silliness and started to eat her food. I looked at Mike who gave me a confused look while finished his food.

"What? I was too lazy to grab another chair. Besides, I have good knees." I got up from my position on the floor and whispered in Mikes ear. "You of all people should know that" I said while grabbing his empty plate. I put it in the sink and when I looked at him his face was in hands, obviously trying to hide his blushing face. Abby walked up to me with her empty plate and thanked me before going to her room. Just then there was a knock on the door. I opened it and it was the babysitter Max. I said bye to Abby and thanked the babysitter for being here before grabbing my keys and walking to the front door

"Okay babe let's go." I said opening the door. Mike grabbed the rest of his things and walked out the door while I closed and locked it behind us. We got in the car and I drove off

"Where are we going anyways?" I asked Mike. "I think it's an interview? Or an evaluation or something, i'm not 100 percent sure" he told me. I nodded my head and continued to drive to the location. After some time we made it and walked in. Some girl checked us in and led us to a waiting room where we found some chairs and sat down. It was very quiet in here. Mike was bouncing his leg up and down; he tends to do that when he's nervous, but so do I so I don't blame him

I slowly moved my hands towards his and interlaced our fingers. He looked at me and I have him a warm smile. He only gave me a half smile before looking forward again. After a couple more minuted Mike turned his head to me and whispered. "Y/n? Is it okay if u walk in with me?" He asked. I looked at him and nodded which earned a smile from him. A few more minutes passed and Mikes number was called. I stood up but noticed Mike was still staring into space

"Mike get up they're calming your number" I  said, lightly tapped him on his shoulder. He snapped out his trance and stood up, grabbing his coat. The lady that called us leas us to an office where a man was facing the wall looking at a folder. Mike and I looked at each other with confused expressions on our faces and sat down in front of the desk. I observed the desk and saw the a name plate that read the name "Steve Raglan: Career Counselor"

The man lightly started humming before turning around, flipping through what I guess is Mikes work history folder. He looked up and his eyebrows furrowed a little. "Oh i'm sorry I thought I was only seeing Mike today." He said, to me, still holding the folder. He had a slick back side part with facial hair that went from his upper lip, to his chin, to across his jaw; and grey hair starting to come in mostly in his beard

"Yeah, sorry. I'm just here for Moral Support and stuff ya know." I responded. He nodded his to me before turning his head to look at Mike

"What is your deal, Mike?" He asked, slightly putting his head down to look at the folder again. "What are you some kind of... head case? He asked Mike. A look of shock and offense showed across my face. Mike didn't answer. "You beat up a man in broad daylight. In front of his child" He said reading from the folder. Mike spoke up

"That was a mistake. Um... It was a misunderstanding. I-I thought..." He started speaking before getting cut off by Mr. Raglan

"Just look at your employment record. Tire Zone, Sales associate, two months, terminated. Insubordination." Me. Raglan said reading off the folder. I looked at Mike to see him shifting his body, obviously not wanting to here his track record. "Media Word, custodial staff, one week" The man continues, lifting up one finger. "It's like you're not even trying here... yet you sit before me, asking for help. I am just trying to figure out who you are, Mr Michael Sh..." Mr. Raglan stopped. He looked up from his folder and slightly leaned in to analyze Mikes face. We both had a confused look on our faces

"You two want coffee?" Mr. Raglan asked. "Sorry?" Mike responded in confusion and slight shock. "Uh, would you, would you two like some... some coffee? I made some coffee." Mr. Raglan asked, walking behind us to a coffee machine on a desk. "No" Mike responded. I kind of wanted coffee but something about this guy seemed suspicious, I just couldn't figure out why. He poured himself some coffee in a mug and must stood there staring at the wall before speaking again

"I'm- i'm gonna be brutally honest with you here, Mike. Given your track record, your options... are gonna be extremely limited" He turned back to face us when Mike started talking. "I'll take anything, okay? Any-any job you got-" But he was cut off my Mr. Raglan. "No no. Look. I-I-I get that part. Um, it's just..." He put his coffee on the table and sat back down before he started talking again

"You know. It's not that easy." He stopped talking. There were a couple seconds of awkward silence before Mike thanked him and motioned me to get up and leave with him. We were about to walk out the door before Mr. Raglan stopped us. "I have a job for you! For you both, actually." He protested. Mike and I stopped in our tracks and turned to him with 'are you kidding me' looks on our faces

"Come on, sit down. Sit, sit, sit, sit, sit!" he demanded, motioning us to sit back down. Mike sat back down on his chair but I didn't want to sit back down, I was ready to leave so I just rested my hand on the back of Mikes chair and stood beside him. "Okay, uh, well what is it" Mike asked leaning forwards, resting his elbows on his thighs

"It's a security gig. Full disclosure: it's not great. Right? High turn over. That's what we call it in the business, but you get to be your own boss. Sort of. And you only have to worry about one thing. Keeping people out. And-and, you know, and keep the place tidy" he told us enthusiastically

"That's two things" Mike and I said in unison. The man looks at us with a 'fair point' look on his face. "You guys want the job of not?" He asked us. I looked at the man in front of us. "How's the pay?" I asked him. "Not great. But the hours are worse." He responded enthusiastically. I put my hands on my waist as Mike looked up at me. I looked down to him and Mike spoke quietly. "We can't do nights." He told me

"Excuse me?" Mr. Raglan asked Mike. "He said we can't do nights" I repeated, a little bit louder than Mike. Mr. Raglan chuckled then spoke up after a couple seconds. "That's such a shame." He said. Mike thanked the man and got up grabbing his coat before telling me "let's go" and walked towards the door to leave, with me closely following behind

"Wait. Uh... In case you have a change of heart." Mr. Raglan stood up quickly and handed Mike a business card. Mike took the card and we walked out the building to head home to Abby
