He is finally asleep.
I let out a long breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. The room was dim except for the faint hum of the night lamp. His bandaged arm rested over his chest, the rise and fall of his breathing steady—peaceful for the first time in hours.
Carefully, I slipped out of the room and closed the door behind me.
Jun was waiting in the hallway, shoulders tense, his head lowered. His usually stoic face was twisted with guilt, shadows darkening his eyes.
I walked closer, and he finally looked up. “Mrs. Jeon—” His voice wavered, rough and uncertain.
“How are you, Jun?” I asked softly.
He shook his head, jaw clenching. “Not good enough.” The guilt in his tone was heavy, almost suffocating.
“It’s not your fault, Jun.”
“But I did it,” he muttered, his hands curling into fists. “I thought—if I followed Lord’s orders—he wouldn’t hurt the boss. But that man… his only joy is hurting him.” His voice cracked, veins standing out on his neck as anger surged through him.
I reached out, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Calm down. I’m just as upset as you, Jun. But acting on impulse won’t give us revenge—it’ll only give him satisfaction.”
He blinked, looking up at me in shock. I nodded, a faint, determined smile tugging at my lips.
“Will you help me, Jun?” I extended my hand toward him.
He hesitated for a moment before shaking it firmly. “What will you do, Mrs. Jeon?”
“Call me Ashley.”
That caught him off guard. His brows furrowed slightly, confusion flickering in his eyes.
“No,” he said quietly, stepping back.
“You will,” I insisted with a small smile. “That’s an order. And, Jun… can you contact that friend who came to the party?”
