As she sat at her kitchen table repeating the same cycle as yesterday, she had an exciting feeling in her stomach. She wore a similar outfit to yesterday, knowing that she would be given a uniform to suit her job.
She arrived at the restaurant again and walked in. She was immediately hit with the same familiar smell as yesterday and the same comforting sound of children cheering. She made her way to Mr Afton's office to make sure he knew Eleanore was here and to get her correct clothes.
She gently knocked on the door and waited for a response.
"Come in." The familiar voice called out. She opened the door and greeted him with a smile. "Good morning, Eleanore."
"Good morning, Mr Afton." She shut the door behind her and approached him.
"Please, call me William." His soft neutral pinkish lips turning into a smile. "We're all friends here, aren't we?"She smiled back at him and tilted her head.
"Of course." There was a moment of silence while they examined each other's faces. "Is there some sort of uniform I have to wear?" Eleanore asked the sitting man.
"Oh, there's an apron. I hope that's okay." He started to stand up, once again his true intimidating height showing. "As long as you don't spill anything on you you'll be fine."He walked ahead as Eleanore followed behind. He stops at a door with no sign. He opens the door and turns the light on and scans his eyes on the shelves.
"Ah. Here you go." He pulls an apron out and hands it to her.She takes it from his hands and smiles.
"Thank you."
"Of course. Come with me i'll show you the kitchen and who you'll be working with."Again, she followed his lead. His stance while he walked was smart and sophisticated, you could tell just by the way he carried himself around. His arms behind his back with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing visible veins running up his arms and his large, bear like hands also carrying veins along them.
"Here." He stopped and pointed at the kitchen. It had a similar black and white checkered design just as the floor in the rest of the building did. It was all clean, just the permanent smell of grease, pizza and everything of the sort filled the air and everyone's nostrils. There were around four cooks and then again a man in an apron would come and take the food to hand out to the hungry customers.
"Nothing special, I know. But it works." He joked.
"At least it's clean. Place I worked at back in England was disgraceful." Eleanore laughed.
"Well im glad it's clean at least." He admired her face with a smile. "Well, im sure you'll get to know everyone soon enough but that's Janine, that's Oscar, that's Jeremy, there's Rinder and over there is the other waiter, Charlotte." William spoke while pointing to the people he was talking about."A lot of names but you'll soon get used to it all." While he spoke, Eleanore was putting her apron on, tying it around her waist tightly so it wouldn't come loose.
"Thank you. I wont disappoint."
"Im sure you won't." He smirked with one side of his mouth slightly. "I told everyone here that there's going to be someone new so, they won't bite." He chucked a little.
"Thank you very much, sir."
"Of course. You know where to find me if you need me."He began to walk off.
Eleanore approached the counter that separated the kitchen and the main room and waited for the food that needed to be given out.
After a moment, a woman approached holding two plates and a glass.
"That table over there, be careful newbie." The tall woman placed everything on the counter. She walked off with a smug look on her face.Eleanore picked up the two plates and the drink with ease and carried them to the table that had ordered it.
"Here you go." She chirped in a cheerful tune.
"Thank you so much, love." A man thankfully spoke out.
"Of course! Enjoy your visit!"About an hour had passed. Eleanore was going back and fourth handing out meals to all of the customers while receiving a mix of curious, vicious and friendly stares from all the other workers. She could tell that one of the women weren't very fond of her, while the other woman was. She knew that the cook, Janine, was the one that was throwing dirty glances at her while the other kinder woman was Charlotte. All of the other workers seemed to be fond of Eleanore already, giving smiles and spouting out kind words to her.
It was half of the groups break, two of them taking their aprons off.
"Hey there. It's your break now, pretty sure you're apart of that group." The kind strawberry blonde haired girl approached.
"Oh, right. Thank you!" She responded while lifting the apron over her head and untying the rope.
"That girl, Janine. Take no notice of her, she's always been a spiteful bitch." She giggles while keeping her voice at a low tone. Eleanore let out a giggle while folding her apron and laying it on the small table next to the counter."I see the looks she gives you. She does it to everyone but the men." She rolled her eyes.
"Oh, so she's one of them huh?"
"Exactly." They exchanged laughter. "Im Charlotte, by the way."
"Eleanore." She smiled at Charlotte.
"Such a beautiful name! I love your accent too!"
"Thank you!" Eleanore blushed a little, covering her huge smile with her hand as her eyes awkwardly darted.
"Well, you go enjoy your break Eleanore." She gave her one last smile and started to walk off.She made her way to the entrance to go outside for the half an hour she had spare. The feeling of the cool breeze hitting her face was unbelievably refreshing as the smell of the streets overpowered any smell that filled her nose before hand.
She reached into her breast pocket and pulled out a cigarette and a lighter. She placed the cigarette into her mouth and lifted the lighter to the end of the cig, covering it with her hand to avoid it from being put out by the wind. With a clink, a small flame released from the lighter and lit the cig after a few seconds of the flame swaying along the end of it. She released the lighter and placed it back into her pocket while inhaling the smoke.
"Smoking, are we?" A voice startled her from behind. She jolted her head to the direction of the voice and took the cig from her mouth, letting out the smoke through her nose. It was William.
"Yeah. Hope you don't mind." She placed it back into her mouth and toked it as he approached her, hands behind his back as always.
"Course not. May I?" He reached out his hand, asking for the cigarette. She took a long pull and handed it to him. He took it into his hands and let it rest in-between his middle and index finger.
"How are you finding it so far, Eleanore?" He spoke before taking a toke on the cig.
"Pretty good. Most of them are friendly."
"Oh yeah? Most?" He handed it back to her. She took it back before responding.
"Yeah but nothing major. Just a girl who isn't too fond of me, I suppose." His eyebrows raised.
"Who?"
"Uhm, Janice?" William chuckled at her mispronunciation.
"Janine?"
"That's the one."
"What's she doing?"Eleanore passed the cig back to William.
"Nothing. She just keeps giving me these weird looks." She shrugged while staring at her feet. "And she keeps throwing out these childish remarks. Like when I first got the food off of her for some customers, gave me the dirtiest look you'd ever see."William chuckled at the seriousness of her words.
"I'll have a word with her."
"No. I don't care that much." She laughed with him. "I can put up with her, for now." William passed the now almost smoked cigarette back to Eleanore and let out a small laugh.
"If you say so." He rolled up his sleeves more until they reached just above his elbows. She looked down at his arms and followed the veins that lead up to where the sleeve covered. "Just let me know if you need me to have a word with her, alright?"Her eyes dart back up to his.
"Thank you, Mr Afton."
"I told you, it's William." He chuckled.
"Right. William."He gave her one last friendly smile before beginning to walk off.
"See you." He spoke while making his way back inside the building.
"Bye."A/N
