I sat in the back of the car, rubbing the irritated skin on my wrists; the pain keeping me in present. The handcuffs rattled as the police car jumped on the speedbump, dragging painfully over my skin. I raised my eyes meeting the hardened gaze of officer Kim, his eyes not leaving my frame for a second. I smiled at him, all of my spite sipping into the toothy grin I send his way.
- I swear, I am going to deck this motherfucker. - Kim growled, twisting in his seat to face me better.
- Kim, leave him alone. - The officer behind the wheel responded.
-This bastard is smiling! - Kim's voice boomed through the car. – He is smiling, Cornwell. After everything... and this motherfucker just smiles...- Kim's eyes flashed with rage, as he lounged backwards yanking at the handle of the window separating us three.
-Officer Kim! - Cornwell raised his voice, the car stopping in its tracks.
- You will sit this instant! - Cornwell's voice echoed through the car as the younger officer lowered himself back onto the sit. Soon enough the car started moving again, the engine buzzing quietly interrupting the momentary silence. I listened to the pleasant sounds of the clearly well-oiled engine, before Cornwell spoke up once more.
-Your young Kim... have a lot to learn, so I will let your little outburst slide this time. - He turned his face to Kim.
- Word of advice from an old cop... Don't let the bastard like him drag your record down. I know it's hard knowing what he is here for, but it's better to just distance yourself from the mess of the crime scene. - Kim sat there, his gaze lowered at his polished shoes. He looked at Cornwell for a split second before looking back at me.
- I got to call Addams. - Cornwell sighed, turning his head back to the road as the younger officer pulled his phone out, dialling the number within seconds. I listened to the beeps, before rather grumpy female voice responded.
- I swear to God Kim, I am busy. - Addams barked through the phone.
- You found her? - Kim asked, disregarding the officer completely. A tired sigh could be heard through the phone followed by some rustling.
- Still looking, but no sign of her so far. Lieutenant will send for the rescue divers in case she run into water, but If that is the case then...- she paused, not willing to say what everybody was everybody was thinking. If she did in fact run into water, they were searching for a body.
- Anyway... We will wrap it up soon for today. Just need to secure the body before sending it to the coroner.
Kim paused, once again glancing at me in the rear-view mirror, before his eyes returned back to the road.
- Well then... Keep us posted Addams. - Kim sighed, clearly disappointed by the current state of the search party, before hanging up. I could feel the numbness setting in. It's cancerous roots ripping any feeling left in my body. I could feel the fog roll before my eyes, clouding the car and the two officers, as if a white film was pulled over my head. My throat tightened as I released a strangled laugh. The younger officer froze as I begun to laugh louder and louder.
- What the fuck...- Kim's voice trembled slightly, exchanging looks with Cornwell.
-W-Why are you laughing?
I brushed a stray tear from my cheek as I was trying to calm the bubbling chuckle.
- Me? No, I just... I doubt you will find her....
