bit of a longer chapter but i couldn't stop writing ^^
i also wrote this chapter while listening to "castles by hasley," do what you wish with this information
The Scorpion King, the ruler of Ulstead, had invited them to dinner.
Honestly Wen Kexing was still trying to wrap his head around it, analyze and determine every possible outcome.
While the dark fae had retreated into his thoughts, Zhou Zishu was still trying to remember why that name sounded so familiar. He thought back to previous conversations, pieces of information. Anything. But no matter how hard he tried, the name remained an elusive puzzle, leaving him frustrated and irritated.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he could see Wen Kexing's mind trying to determine what to do. He no doubt saw this as a trap, and he couldn't blame him for he had done – and still does – the same.
"It's just a dinner," Zhou Zishu calmly began.
The interruption seemed to draw Wen Kexing back to the present, as he glanced up with those piercing golden-brown eyes and retorted, "They don't want me in Ulstead, and why now? They just see me as a threat. Why on earth would I go?!"
The former prince took a step toward his zhiji; "Do we want to be at war the rest of our lives? Do we not deserve peace? Give them five minutes to explain their intentions, and if you still don't want to stay, then we can leave. Deal?"
Zhou Zishu expected this answer from the start. He understands why the dark fae is wired this way after years of assassination attempts and constantly being in a state of fight or flight. Why he faced it countless times when he was a prince. They both couldn't help but be on guard and on edge. But, he knows that they were both trying for each other.
Dark eyes fixed on him and the former nodded his head, finally coming to an agreement. He offered Wen Kexing a soft smile as he extends his hand to intertwine with this zhiji and gave a reassuring squeeze as a gesture of encouragement.
"Fine. Let's see what this King has in store for us. Ah-Xiang, sent the decree back that we have accepted."
You want to dance? Then two can play this game, Scorpion King.
