Tap. Tap. Tap.
You tapped your foot to the rhythm of the gears in the clock of the office. The scruff of erasers and the clicking of the keyboards spread through the room, indicating that some serious work was being done. The silence seemed incredibly unusual to you.
Guess that's what happens when you get away from kids.
You hadn't been at work for a while now, since you were still getting used to a bunch of miniaturized video game characters appearing randomly. Now that you were back, it hardly even felt real.
The silence was loud as your (e/c) irises watched everyone around you work. Every single person around you seemed to be entirely focused on what was going on in front of them and they all seemed like lifeless AIs, who seemed desperate for release.
Or maybe they were just being normal. And maybe you've forgotten what it's like to not be around tireless children.
You smiled a little as you remembered how confused they all were when you said you were leaving. Lumine started bawling her eyes out as Zhongli and Aether tried to calm her down. Ei and Venti just decided to cling to your legs to make it impossible for you to get anywhere while Nahida was trying to eat your hair. Paimon had to bribe them all with cookies while you made your break for it.
You honestly felt a little bad, but you couldn't figure out who it was for.
Was it for the kids for leaving them? Or was it for Paimon for leaving her with them all?
You felt your lips twitch up at the hilarious thought on how things were going over at your place.
Wait, I'm getting off task! Gotta focus! So... what was I doing again?
You deadpanned at your forgetfulness as you searched your brain for your current task. Luckily, you didn't need to remember as the clock hit 1:00, lunch break. You smiled as you immediately popped up out of your seat and headed out of the place.
You only had a little while, but you were sure that you could squeeze in a visit for your kids.
"Ah, Y/N!" You halted in your steps as you heard the soothing voice of someone familiar. Your eyes widened as you turned around on your heel in surprise.
"Huh- What the?!" Standing behind you was an elderly woman with gray hair wrapped into a cozy bun. She looked at you with loving eyes and a smile.
Madame Ping?!!
Your eyes remained bulged as she walked up to you and gave you a warm smile. You were honestly so confused. Why is Madame Ping old when Zhongli and the other archons aren't? How does time work in this confusing world? How does she know your name? Does she know Zhongli still or no?
"You seem to be in brighter spirits," She spoke up, breaking your train of thought. "I was worried about you, y'know. With you working yourself to death and all."
