Districts & Ethnicities

My theory about ethnicity and discrimination in Panem.

This post isn't by me. I found it on Reddit:

The race is never mentioned, the only look is described. When they describe people in the merchant like blond hair and blue eyes, we assume white. District 11 people are described with dark skin, but they could be black or Indian, Arabic, etc. We have no idea how Suzanne Collins pictures them.

My theory is, people from the seam have olive skin, black hair, and gray eyes. We have no idea how light or dark their skin is (olive skin can sometimes be pretty pale during winter times). If we assume their skin tone is usually golden-brown like light-skinned Hispanic or South-European, we can assume they are Native-Americans, but gray eyes are usually found in whites because they have very little melanin, and they are very sensitive, so I find this combination very interesting.

As for the merchant class, I think they have Scandinavian origins.

District 11 you can choose. I pictured Rue and Tresh as Indian before casting. After I re-read a book, they stuck as black in my head. Their features are not described. We only know they have dark skin, black hair, and brown eyes.

District 4 is very interesting. They are described with tanned skin, copper hair, and green eyes. We have no idea is their skin tanned due to sun exposure or naturally tanned. They have features like many Hispanics, Mediterranean, and South Europeans. My guess would be Hispanics.

District 3 is kinda strange. They are described to have ashen skin with black hair if I am not wrong. My guess is white, I have no idea where to put them.

District 2 with brown hair, green eyes, and stocky build has a Celtic origin, no question.

District 1, blond hair, green eyes - white.

District 5, if everyone had similar features to Foxface, they could have Irish origin, but she had golden eyes and Irish usually have green eyes.

When it comes to the other districts, we have no idea what special features they have. In 10th hunger games, Lamina from district 7 is described as blond, while Treech is described as having black hair. Joana also had black spiky hair (like Goku), so you can imagine them as white, Asian, whatever you want.

I do not believe they are segregated. Since Panem is a few centuries old, we have no idea how it came to be, migration is pretty much non-existent and over time people develop similar features if they don't migrate. I don't remember anyone was discriminated based of their skin color. During 75th Hunger Games districts 1, 2, and 4 are treated better than district 11 and 12, because they are richer, and they developed strategies for their kids to win Hunger games, but during 10th Hunger games everyone is treated like shit, skin color didn't help them (remember poor Marcus). Capitol pretty much does not care if you are male, female, black, white, gay, cis, trans, everything has to do with your origin. No matter what, you will always be inferior to them because you are not the Capitol. When it comes to Capitol, I don't believe everyone is exclusively white. Lysistrata is described as having light brown skin. Clemensia had a very long raven hair, and you can picture her as Asian. Pretty much, Hunger games have never been about skin color, gender or sexuality, it was always about class and your origin. If you are a district, you are fuckedddd.
