Chapter 1 - New Beginnings

The rhythmic hum of tires on asphalt accompanied your family of four as you cruised down the open road, leaving the urban sprawl behind. As the landscape unfolded, your mind drifted back to the vibrant chaos of LA—the city of dreams you once called home. The memories of bustling streets and neon lights clashed with the serene scenes outside the car window, creating a bittersweet symphony of nostalgia.

Now, on the horizon, a new chapter beckoned. The road led to Arcadia Bay, a small port city renowned for its summer beaches and tight-knit community. The promise of tranquil shores and a simpler life awaited, painting the future with the hues of anticipation. You looked over at your baby sister who babbled and squealed in her car seat beside you, her fluffy hair and droopy cheeks made you giggle a bit until you gazed out at the road ahead, your mother and father chattering with one another about all the possibilities that lay ahead of them.

A part of you was happy, going to a new place, new people, a fresh start? It didn't seem bad, yet the world was caving in on you. You knew life was meant to have its ups and downs, but as you stared out to the small and quaint city a part of you wanted to jump out that very car and race back to LA... of course such things aren't so easy. You looked toward the Windshield and stared at the sign: "Welcome to Arcadia Bay".

Closing in on the quaint port town you glanced around at the sights and smells that befell you. Catching sight of a large factory-like building by the oceanfront from which you passed by, you couldn't make out the words due to signs rusting over the years but you could swear a Y can be made out. Stopping by a stop sign you glanced around at the people and sighed under your breath as the car drove past. Children played on the sidewalk. Hopscotch and jump rope overtook the sounds of nature. Girls by an ice cream parlor seemingly chatting about whatever the day took them, you smiled at the sight. Maybe this port city won't be so bad after all? The beauty of it all and your love for the ocean and sandy beaches make this a tranquil reality. You looked out the window again and watched as a boy not much older than you smoked and eyed your car as it drove off, his long hair blocking his facial features.

"You excited to see the new house?" Your mom spoke up with a cheerful attitude. You looked over to see her shaking a new bottle of formula to give to your baby sister who had been babbling the entire trip.

"Eh..." You replied. Leaning against your hand you looked out the window. Your mom sighed and gave your dad a look before giving your baby sister the bottle. "I'm excited, it's just—" You shrugged. "It's scary, y'know?"

"Don't be so scared." Your dad who had been quiet for some time taking in the scenery of the vast beaches that surrounded them. "If anything, you'll do great."

"Just take one day at a time." Your mom stated with a smile. "This is a new beginning! New friends maybe even a guy huh? Huh?" You rolled your eyes.

"Yeah, one day..."  You replied with a small sigh and looked out the window. The once bustling town soon turned into quiet neighborhoods. The family car slowly drove up to the. house on the street. It was a two-story beach house with a white picket fence. It was beautiful, no doubt about it. Its lush grasses and concrete pavement gave it a feeling of comfort. You smiled slightly at the house as you eyed a surfboard in the window.

"Well... what do you think?" Your mom spoke up. Your baby sister babbled happily, clearly, the house got her approval. Your dad huffed, but not a huff of disapprovement it was more so acknowledgement. "Yey... Nay? Maybe so?.... C'mon, you guys!"

"Not... bad."

"Not bad at all..." You spoke up with a smile and took your baby sister out of the car seat. "C'mon, Ophelia... let's look at our new house." You cheerfully said as you got out of the car, Ophelia in hand as she held tightly onto her half-finished bottle. You stared up at the house and realized just how beautiful it was. Living here may not be... all that bad.
