CHAPTER 17

"Oh good, you're finished. Lets go, Commander Jones is ready." Standing at the open blast door, Carver sends us through it and down a corridor with a huge open room with windows at the top. Letting the morning sun's rays seep into the room, revealing rows booths and, sandbags aligned in sync further towards the ends. "A gun range?" Scarlet mutters under her breath as her small hands shift around her rifle hanging from her shoulders. "Oh, She's gonna love this!" I think in my head as her eyes sparkle with curiosity. My eyes lock on the glass windows with an office inside. As we near it, I make out a brown wood desk, along with a black leather chair behind it, a m4 under the desk, and Commander Jones. We climb the open metal stairs up to his second story office and Carver unlocks the door with a key from his belt. The heavy clank of the safety lock sliding back into its socket sends a tingle down my spine me and I rub Scarlet's arm as the metal door swung open.
"Soldiers. You made it!" Jones was glancing over a briefcase standing at the center of his table, along with a pair of dog tags. A older man who looked to be in his forties stood at Parade rest near the case and nodded to us. "Have a seat you two. We have much to discuss." He motions for the two chairs facing commander.
"I hope you both slept well." Jones unbuckles the the case and extracts a large folded paper. "Because." he further unfolds the large bundle. "You've got a long day ahead of you." Spreading the paper over his desk, Jones leans in and points his finger onto a large structure. It looked like a large field enclosed with three paths that appeared to be roads. "Is this what I think it is???" My eyebrows shoot up as I lean in closer to make out the distinct features of the rows if buildings aligned in tightly nit rows. "Its… The FEMA camp stationed south of the slums."
"Indeed it is." Jones reaches over to the case and flips it open; spinning it around to reveal two micro chips side by side. "You guys will be escorting this package to this railyard west of the camp here." Jones slides his fingers over the map; tracing a line farther down the right of the map to a cluster of tracks.
"What's significant about this railyard?" Scarlet buds in curiously.
"The significance of this place is it's role for the camp. It is the only supply route that we will be able to access from the ground." He takes the suitcase from off the desk and motions for me to take it. "You will need this."
"Yes sir." I take the black case and set it at my feet.
"You will make your trip there on foot. Find a vantage point of some kind to post as a look out nest. That is what he's for." Jones points to the man standing behind us holding a silenced modified Mk.mod. "Knight will serve as squad leader and designated marksman. He can shoot the wings off of a gnat." Jones turns back to us. "You two on the other hand, will infiltrate the railyard undetected, and steal a hard copy of the shipment schedule for the camp. You will also need to install those chips into the main security console located there."
Scarlet and I open the case looking at the tiny green chips. "What do they do?"
"They. Well they do one thing." He chuckles as he pats the desk. "They sabotage."
Scarlet raises an eyebrow and glances at me confused. "Why do we need to sabotage a railyard?"
"To bypass the automatic alarm system when we board these trains, but back to your mission." He stands. "You may do those two in any order. Just get them done. There will be no contact to HQ during this mission. Radio silence is a key factor to slip in unnoticed."
"Now." Jones leans in forwards us and crosses his hands. "Your mission is critical to what is about to happen."
I gulp down my breath as I ask. "What's about to happen?"
Silence engulfs the room and I gulp waiting for the amswer. Scarlet stands up and turns her back cocking her G36c as she mumbles. "War."
