Description: an AU or pre-war backstory when the cassettes are Soundwave's adopted kids, and Soundwave meets (Y/D).
A/N: so I missed (Y/D) was supposed to be a character. Whoops, keeping what I wrote before realizing it. It's a cute little story.

Soundwave watches Frenzy and Rumble fight while Ravage is asleep on the couch. He finds himself questioning how he got himself into this. He found the three sleeping on the street. It was clear to him that the three were homeless.
It's been three months since that day. He's been questioning how long the three have been homeless with their behavior.
"Enough!" He yells. Waking up Ravage, "both of you sit on the couch! Ravage, get down!"
Ravage gets off the couch and finds a place to lie down while the other two sit on the couch. Both are not pleased with the lecture they're getting and hearing there's going to be strict rules and a strict schedule. The only punishment Soundwave could implement was time out. Making each mech face the wall for five minutes while lecturing them about what they did wrong.

Soundwave knew this would be a challenge, trying to teach two mechlings and a cybercat who have been used to no rules for a long time, but he didn't think he'd be lecturing all three of them every few hours.

When the three are recharging, Soundwave sits on his berth, thinking about when he found them.
Soundwave walks down the street, hearing a noise in the alleyway.
"I saw it first!" He heard a voice that sounded like a youngling.
"It's mine!"
Soundwave sees two mechlings arguing over a mostly empty cube of energon. A cybercat watches them until they see Soundwave and begin growing.
"Get lost, fragger!" The purple one yells, "this is mine!"
"Disrespectful younglings! How dare you talk to me like that!" The two stop arguing. Shocked at the tone of Soundwave's voice, "where are your parents?"
"We don't have any," the purple one says, "they left.... five months ago."
"You three are coming with me. It's better than struggling to find energon."
The two aren't sure about going with a stranger, but they're hungry.

Soundwave gives the two younglings energon cubes and their cybercat a bowl of energon. He learns the names of the younglings and their pet. Frenzy and Rumble don't know if there's other family on Cybertron. Soundwave is convinced that any family they have will neglect the two. He decides to take care of the two younglings and their pet.
Soundwave smiles, though no one would see it. Despite all the trouble the three have caused, he's made the right decision. He just failed to teach them to behave and that there are rules and consequences.

It's a month before Ravage is a well-behaved cybercat, while Frenzy and Rumble are well-behaved mechlings. Soundwave still keeps the strict rules and schedule. A continued reminder that he made the right decision to take the three in. He'll tackle sending Frenzy and Rumble to school in a few months. He doesn't think they're ready for that.

Soundwave hates leaving the three at home even with how behaved they are. He has to get more energon. He could have it delivered, but he also needs to get out of the house.
An hour a week wouldn't be considered good, but that's all the time Soundwave allows himself until Frenzy and Rumble are more behaved.

Soundwave had planned to rush out. Back home in twenty minutes, but he found himself talking to a femme.
They talked for ten minutes before she asked why he was buying a lot of energon. Pointing out she's never known a single Cybertronian to stock up on energon.
Soundwave doesn't feel comfortable talking about his adopted children yet. He excuses himself, pays for the energon, and leaves. The femme hopes to meet Soundwave again.

It's been four months, and they are now well-behaved. Soundwave thinks, watching his younglings and their pet play. I know they'll only learn by going out in public.
Soundwave realizes he's worried about the skim chance possible family of the younglings will spot them.
He tells Frenzy and Rumble they're going out. Ravage is not pleased to be staying home.

Soundwave takes the two to a park. He couldn't believe his luck seeing the same femme he met the other day and that she spotted him. He lets her sit on the bench beside him.
The two properly introduce themselves before the two younglings run up to them. Now Soundwave has no choice but to explain the situation.
"I can help you," (Y/D) offers after hearing the story.
"They're still like wild animals like their pet cybercat."
"You're not doing a good job telling me you can handle them."
Soundwave agrees to let (Y/D) come to his home after the two younglings play for a while.

Three months pass, and Soundwave can't believe what he's seeing and his life has become. Two younglings, a pet cybercat, and a girlfriend whom his adopted sons already call mom. He didn't think he'd ever have any of this.
"Come on, Mom, let's go to the park," Frenzy says, pulling her digit.
(Y/D) never thought helping Soundwave with the younglings like this nor did she think they'd vs her mom. She's happy with how things turned out, including dating Soundwave. The family walks down the street including Ravage. Soundwave has learned to relax and not worry about Frenzy and Rumble's neglectful family finding them.
