As the sun slowly crept over the horizon line, Jade watched the stars begin to fade away. As of the current moment, she was still sprawled out in a bed in the Moonshine medwing. According to the doctor, the condition of her arm was still too critical for her to be sent home. Well, Arlis had repeatedly insisted that it was critical, and the doctor had given up on trying to fight the wolf who was both the future alpha, and her mate.
The wolf in question was snoring softly from the make-shift bed he had created on the floor. He was determined to stay with Jade the whole night through, even if it meant breaking his back on the cold tiles. He didn't even dare leave the room long enough to find an actual mattress to sleep on.
Jade really couldn't complain about her protective mate. It was truly adorable how much he cared for her, and hey, it was a Tuesday morning. His protectiveness meant that she wouldn't have to attend school that day, because of everything going on.
Jade allowed herself a few more moments to admire his adorable face before she decided that she should wake him up. Before Jade could nudge him in the side with her foot, a small smirk was curling across the lips of her supposedly sleeping mate.
"You should take a picture, it would last longer." he teased, and Jade blushed bright red as she realized he was already awake, and probably knew that she had been staring at him.
Instead of the gentle nudge she had originally planned for, Jade kicked him harshly in the side, huffing as her mate only laughed and rolled away from her line of fire.
"I wasn't staring!" She argued, but Arlis shook his head as he sat up.
"Tell that to your bright red face." Jade pouted at him and looked away, her cheeks only growing more rosy.
"Oh shut up, before I kick you again." Arlis scoffed, grinning.
"Jade, you kick like a human. I can take it."
"Hey!" Making good on her threat, Jade kicked the male again, harder this time.
"Ow!" he exclaimed through his laughter, "I was teasing, okay! ...mostly." he leapt up and jumped away before Jade could kick him another time.
"It's okay to admit that you were staring at me. I know I'm handsome and hot." Jade rolled her eyes and made no comment, as she couldn't argue, but she definitely was not not interested in letting him win by agreeing with him. The grin that then spread across Arlis's face was entirely too smug.
"Look at how red you are! You totally know that I'm right!" Jade huffed and desperately tried to change the subject.
"Come on! It's time for you to take me home! Let's go!" Arlis's noisy laugh bounced off of the walls of the hospital-esk room.
"Yeah, yeah... as long as you know this isn't the end." He stretched his arms out and yawned, running his fingers through his messy hair and scrunching his nose up as it didn't seem to flatten out his bed head at all. Arlis sat up and bent forward, before groaning softly and flopping face first into the blanket pile.
Jade couldn't help but snort at the crumpled heap of flailing limbs that was her mate. "Arlis.. Are you okay?" A drawn out groan emitted from the Arlis pile that had his head stuffed in a pillow. He suddenly flopped backwards so he was staring at the ceiling.
"My back huuurts." Jade couldn't help but burst out laughing as the strong wolf whined about back pain like an old man.
"All of the training and border patrols and fights with rogues and the thing to bring down the big, strong, wolf is back pain from sleeping on the floor for one night?" Arlis stuck out his bottom lip in a pout and huffed.
