Joy Joy Land.
Wasn't so magical, was it?
Emma didn't think so. As soon as she stepped in, she wanted to step back out.
The shards were her and her brother's main goal. Seek, collect, get out. That was the main objective, there was nothing else to it.
As many carnival games as there were shards, the shards were more valuable than the smiles that they missed from the memories of games that resembled the same around them.
Their hearts raced as their eyes bat around for any signs of danger. They couldn't die now- they just arrived.
"I don't like the look of this place." Cruz said to his sister as he examined his tablet, the ones that revealed the shards' locations.
"I don't either." Emma said as she stayed a foot ahead of him. "I'm getting Disney Land vibes, but this place is a little smaller."
"If there's cotton candy, I'm all for it." Cruz grinned as he nudged his her arm with his elbow. Emma didn't seem to smile from his comment, only a slight chuckle escaped her lips.
She agreed on one hand, but there was indeed no cotton candy of the sorts around here. All there was was jewels that held the souls of many who passed here, many that wanted a grand wish from Bierce but failed to grant her own desire.
She knew that she and her brother wouldn't be the next, and she would make sure of that.
Her eyes trailed around the park, the huge surrounding wasn't new to her..She's had her fair share of amusement parks, yes, even this type.
"There's a door here." Cruz pointed over to their right, grabbing his sister's attention. She glanced over and narrowed her eyes.
"Let's get going then." Emma replied to him before she started rushing over towards the opening. Cruz dashed right behind her, trying to keep up.
Emma stopped right at the door. She noticed the camera that stood in their path, which made her stop in her tracks completely. Cruz, on the other hand, didn't seem to notice. He rushed right through the door, setting the camera off.
"Shit!" Emma shouted, grabbing onto Cruz's arm. He yanked her into the doorway before the door shut on them.
The two peered back at the door, sighing in relief that they made it through.
"Shit," Emma cursed, glancing down at her arm. The door latched onto part of her sweater, making it rip. She saw the piece under the door. "God damnit."
"Don't worry about the sweater right now, Em." Cruz pat her back. "Worry about how we'll get the shards and get out of here."
Emma stared down at the sweater piece. Her eyes softened at the sight.
"Dad made me this sweater."
"I know." Cruz rubbed her upper back, gesturing her to take a step forward. "We'll grab the piece when we rush right back through here. I promise."
Emma let out a sigh. She admired the sweater, the way it had holes in the shoulders to show off her freckled skin, the way she was given it whenever she was fifteen. Her father always made her oversized sweaters so they could last longer.
