Celeste Vogelbaum felt anxious as she stepped out of the Range Rover, her Valentino heels hitting the asphalt, as she gazed at the massive structure in front of her. It was Godolkin University, the world's most distinguished institution for supes. She had always wanted to study here since she was a child, but now that she was here, she felt overwhelmed and out of place.
She'd grown up hearing stories of Godolkin's astounding discoveries and innovations, and how it was a place where the brightest and most brilliant supes could study and flourish. She'd also heard stories about her grandfather, Godolkin alumnus and famous scientist Jonah Vogelbaum. He was the creator of Compound V, the chemical that gave superheroes their powers, as well as the father figure of Homelander, the leader of the Seven, the world's most recognized and powerful superhero squad.
Her driver, David, collected her luggage, and they made their way to the front door, where a mob of students and staff awaited. She noticed banners and placards welcoming the new freshmen and wishing them good start. She also noticed cameras and reporters covering the event and interviewing students. She attempted to blend in with the crowd and avoid them, hoping no one would see her.
She was not used to being in the spotlight. She preferred to keep a low profile and focus on her studies. She was a science major who wanted to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather.
Celeste admired her granddad beyond all others. He was polite, kind, and smart, and he constantly encouraged her to pursue her interest in science. He also loved her unconditionally, despite the fact that she was unlike other supes. Celeste has empathy, allowing her to detect and influence the emotions of others. She was able to feel what they were feeling and make them feel what she wanted them to feel.
With a touch or a glance, she could make people happy, sad, furious, or scared. She could also read their thoughts and influence their behavior. She was also psionic, which meant she possessed further mental talents that she had yet to completely comprehend. She had the ability to manipulate items with her thoughts, create illusions, and converse telepathically. She had learnt the fundamentals of her strength at an early age, yet she still struggled to blend in with others. She was frequently overwhelmed by their feelings and sought to avoid them. She was also frightened of hurting or getting hurt by them.
Celeste was hoping Godolkin would be different. She aspired to meet individuals who understood her and shared her enthusiasm for science. She hoped to meet friends and perhaps even find love. She was hoping to find happiness and calm.
As she entered the building, she was greeted by a cheerful voice that called her name.
"Hey, Celeste! Over here!"
When she glanced around, she noticed a girl waving at her. Emma Meyer, a YouTube celebrity who could shrink and expand at will, was spotted by her. She had met her a few weeks before when they were placed as roommates online. They'd spoken and video-called numerous times and clicked instantly. Emma was lively, pleasant, and humorous. She was daring, rebellious, and brave. She was the polar opposite of Celeste, but they worked well together.
Celeste smiled and walked towards her, driver following behind, caution toward Emma coming off him in waves. Despite his expressionless face and his eyes hidden behind shades, Celeste could feel his every emotion. No one could really hide their feelings from her, which could sometimes be a blessing or a curse.
Emma ran and hugged her, lifting her off the ground.
"I'm so glad you're here, Celeste! You look even prettier in person!" Emma exclaimed. Celeste gave David a thumbs up to let him know everything was okay.
