Ruby's POV
The loud music and chatter is nearly deafening. There has to be at least fifty people in this one room. Jade's been still and quiet since we sat. She hates crowds more than anything. She's made it clear that she just wants to leave. I've caught a few guys staring at her but I'm not worried. As long as she's near me, I know she's safe.

"I'm gonna go get another drink, you want one?" She asks me, picking her head up.

"Nah I'm good.. I gotta drive us back, remember?" I say to her.

She nods as she stands. I watch her go up to the kitchen and feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn to see a guy that was not there a second ago.

"Wassup." I say.

"Not much man.. just goin around, makin friends ya know." He replies, slurring like hell. The smell of alcohol on his breath hits me like a train.

We go back and forth about nothing for a minute. I can't understand half of what he says, but I go along with it. He's probably a chill guy, but he's beyond the point of comprehension.

"Hey.. uh, that blonde up... up there, is that your girl? Cause some dude's... some dude's messing with her." He slurs, pointing behind me.

When I look, I immediately spot him. He's standing in front of her with a hand on the counter. Definitely a frat boy who thinks he's hot shit.

Damn it.

I wave to get her attention. Before she can take a step, he blocks her. She says something, to which he starts shaking his head. I stand up and begin making my way over there.

She tries to get past him while he's distracted. This time, he grabs her wrist and pulls her back. She winces as he gets close to her. By now, I'm pushing through the crowd.

She shakes her arm free, spilling his drink in the process. It stains his shirt and pants. He stares down for a moment. He begins yelling at her, pushing and shoving her back as he's berating her. He steps closer to her, raising his hand. The sound of his palm making contact with her cheek echoes. She stumbles back and bumps the wall.

Suddenly my blood is lava in my veins. The anger washes over my body like a tsunami. A deep, burning feeling rises in my chest as I get closer. I planned on knocking some teeth out, but now I'm gonna fucking kill him.

"You stupid bitch!" He barks at her, "Watch what the FUCK you're doing."

His voice thunders through the house. He slams his fist on the counter, stepping closer to her. She pushes herself into the wall. As I push and fight my way through the crowd, her knees buckle. She goes to the floor and hides under the counter. When I finally break through, he's nearly screaming at her. The bones in my hands ache as I approach him.

"Aye, motherfucker," I yell at him.

"Fuck you want?" He asks, turning around.

I nail him in the jaw, knocking his hat off his head. He stumbles to the side, spitting something on the ground. He comes back with a swing that I barely dodge. All of my strength goes to punching him in the ribs. He doubles over, gagging and nearly puking for a moment.

He comes at me suddenly, catching me off guard. All I can do at first is back up. He hits me in the shoulder, then the chest. Cute. I nail him square in the nose. He squeals, his eyes tearing up instantly as his face turns red.

For a moment, I debate on whether I should stop. All it takes is a glance at Jade. The fear in her eyes. The cherry red hand print on her cheek. Her entire body trembling.

I kick the absolute shit out of his left knee, so hard that it bends backwards. His body collapses, giving me a perfect shot. Every atom of my being goes into the final kick. His ear-splitting screeches echo through the house. He curls into a tight ball, grabbing between his legs. My fists are begging me to go for more, but I think I've made my point.
