It was a dark unwelcoming night. The rain was hitting my window trying to get me to notice it. But my mind was on other things.

The pitter patter of the rain normally helps me to sleep but it only distracts me from my slumber.

It was early in the morning, but anyone could call it night still and no one would bat an eye at that.

But it was not just the persistence of the annoying rain keeping me up. I was reading a story to help me to quiet my loud mind but to no avail did this help.

I heard a knock at the door which made me shiver. I put my book down once the noise stopped and slowly got up from my chair.

"It is probably a branch," I told myself, as I soundlessly walked towards the door. As I made my approach, I saw a picture with two people. Me and my lost love.

Even the colourless painting could capture her beauty. Her flushed cheeks, her beautiful black hair, and her perfect smile.

But she was taken away from me too early. Maybe God thought she was too good for this world.

I wiped a tear but then I stopped moving once I heard knocking again. It took a second to be able to move again but I had to see what was making that noise.

"I am sorry Sir or Madam for my delay!" I started to explain "But I was half asleep and you knocked so lightly so I was scarce sure I heard you knocking at my door!"

Once I reached the door, I had to have some deep breaths before I was able to open the door. I reached out and turned the doorknob. My hands were dripping from sweat so I had to stop for a second to wipe my hands before trying again. This time I could open the door.

The rain made it hard to see but I could still see that no one was there. I put my head out the door to see if anyone was hiding but still saw no one.

Shaking the raindrops off my head I decided to go back inside. "It must have been the rain trying to bug me" I told myself, but I did not know whether I should believe it.

I was in the middle of the living room when I heard a scratching from my window. I stopped walking and felt as my heartbeat grew faster.

Even though I was scared I was curious about the noise. "It is just the wind and nothing more." I told myself and started to walk towards the window. "I will find out what is making all this noise and put an end to this!"

I found the window and opened it. Before I had the chance to look around a flash of darkness came into the house like it lived there. A pure black cat. It shook the rain from its fur and jumped onto a cabinet and sat down.

I looked at the guest and the cat's presence turned my frown into a look of joy. I walked up to the cat and looked at it.

"Your fur may be clean, and you may seem polite, but you do not belong here! What is your name?"

The cat looked at me like it was trying to get a read on me.

"Lost" The cat mewed after a few seconds of analysing me.

I looked at the cat in wonder. It was no everyday a cat comes in! And with a name such as Lost! The cats black fur reminded me of my love.

I wanted to hear the cat talk again and I had so many questions to as the cat. But I thought of the perfect question.

"What are you doing here?" I asked the cat wanting to hear its question to it. "Lost" the cat mewed again.

The cat started to repeat that word while looking at me. Like it was doing it on purpose! The creature started to look around, its eyes stopped when it saw something, and when I knew what the cat was looking at it made me tense up.
