"Not again," I grumbled. "My apologies Miss Harriett, but I thought this was going to be the written exam." I didn't bother opening my eyes, I knew she was grinning wider than a Cheshire cat. "Well done 8, you've improved massively, did you like our newest invention?"
I looked at her and realized she was talking about
the serum that had be injected in me. "It does the same thing as the bodystocking, reading electrical currents in brainwaves except it gets information from the through vibrations in the bloodstream. Although we cannot exactly read your mind, more of, your emotions." I sighed. "It is a pleasure to hear you again Miss Harriett." I emphasized on the hear. Eyes were a disappointment. I know she was on that platform, wearing her blinding white formal wear. She had not changed in the slightest, still intoxicating, although her blonde hair now had streaks of white.
"I did not come for your exam, but when I heard of it, I rushed to try our newest invention." She did not come here for me. Then what had she come for?
"It seems you are a little confused my dear. On why I have arrived, I presume? I'm here to give someone to Cee. Her name is Scarlet, say hello." I followed her hand motion with my eyes and saw a girl about two to three years older than me. She had curly locks of ginger hair and slight brunet highlights. She had sun kissed skin and chocolate brown eyes. Her face had freckles and she wore dangling sword earrings.
There were two things I could talk about her. One, she was the second most beautiful person I had seen (Cee being number one of course) and two, she creeped me the hell out. "Hello 8, it is so nice to meet you! Since we'll both be under Instructor Cementra we'll be like sisters!"
Her smile was an exact replica of the sun. Bright and Blinding. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Scarlet, although you must be mistaken," she opened her eyes just slightly although her smile did not even begin to falter (Jeez was Mr. Nick the only normal person in that division). "What do you mean by that?" She tilted her head sideways and I felt as if the star in her smile had exploded and became a blackhole, ready to swallow me whole if I did not answer correctly.
"Sisters are biologically related to each other or are adopted or married into the same family. However, in the divisions we are not biologically related, none of the instructors are married and we aren't adopted. We are soldiers, the same is said on our Division Profiles." Her smile became bright again.
"I knew that that is why I said like sisters silly." I looked at her and stood up to brush the imaginary dust off my clothing. I don't know but something, no, everything, about her was off. "She will be staying with the instructors and do not worry she has been trained specifically to work with Cee."
I looked up at Ms. Harriett. I didn't let my suspicion show. I would wait and then I would prove it.
Scarlet as an individual scared me. Not just fear but dread. She could not be trusted. "I believe you are late for you Mental Psychology class. It would be the perfect opportunity to allow Scarlet to meet her after all." I grunted and motioned my arm for her to follow me. We walked down the hallway in silence.
"I know you don't trust me,8." She suddenly spoke. "What gave it away, the fact I won't look at you, or have you a reason not to be trusted." She stopped and grabbed my sleeve with surprising strength. Not enough to tear it but enough to keep me in place. "You are a very cautious person, you were born like that, and I admire it, but I promise I mean you and your friends no harm."
I looked at her and her sad expression, the shame and expectation in her eyes made me want to believe her. But I didn't reply. Something about her was unnerving. Maybe her beauty, or her smile. Both terrified me. "We are going to History class now, Scarlet," I spoke. "Three windows down and take a left. There are three doors, knock on the middle one, Instructor Anne should open it." She turned around and faced me, her ivory hair falling gracefully on her shoulder. "Actually, I wish to meet Instructor Cee, so I can explain my arrival."
