Speeding down the highway I glanced at my clock. Crap, I’m late! Thinking back to earlier this morning I’m surprised I didn’t just call up Matthew and reschedule. Matt was my best friend on the face of the Earth, and the creator of this really cool band. They were holding try outs for a lead singer. The same auditions I am about to be late for!!
This morning I had been so out of it. By out of it, I mean I was lost in my own little world of music, dancing to Peanut Butter Jelly Time while making a PB&J. You will never guess what made me freak out this morning. I had gone to get my jelly and I froze as I saw in big red letters, “AUDITIONS THURSDAY!” I totally dropped what I had been doing and rushed up the stairs, of my two story colonial home, and into my bathroom. I have never put on my make-up so fast in all my life! My hair was a bird’s next on top of my head, and my clothes didn’t even match. I was pretty sure they were dirty basing my theory off of the fact that they wrinkled.
Just then I heard my phone ringing. Lunging forward in my seat to grab my purse from the floorboard, I snatched my phone out of its side pocket, but then realized it wasn’t my cell that was ringing. It was my phone built into my car! Duh Scarlett……
Pressing the answer button, the entire car was now filled with Matt’s annoying voice, “Scar, where are you?!” I hated that nick name, but what can you do?
“I’m on 71st Avenue about to turn onto Gardenia Boulevard. I swear I will be there within the next five minutes!”
“You’d better be or I swear….” he swore menacingly before cracking up with laughter, “Just letting you know, I scheduled you last today because I knew you’d be late.”
“Aww! That’s why I left it up to you to schedule me in!” I said smiling happily. He knows me too well.
“That’s what I’m for,” I could tell he was smirking through the phone.
“Yeah, yeah, I’ll call you when I pull up. Bye!” I listened for him to reply, but of course he already hung up. I shook my head as a grin spread across my face. How many times had I told him to wait until he said bye to abruptly end the convo? Way too many was my guess.
I turned onto Gardenia just as the light turned red. I looked around frantically to make sure no cops were anywhere I could see. I was about to let out a sigh of relief, then the lights and siren began to go off.
“Ugh!!!” I yelled out, Matt’s gonna kill me for real this time. I pulled over and quickly got out my license and was just about to reach for my registration when I got the knock on my window. I turned and quickly put a charming smile on my face. Rolling down my window I leaned into it and batted my eyes.
“Do you know what I pulled you over for?” asked a pretty young officer. Wow, he was hot and to boot he looked only twenty-three-ish.
“No officer, I don’t. Was I speeding?” I ask innocently. He wasn’t biting, yet.
“You ran a red light. Now please get your license and registration ma’am.” I knew after this I would be let off with a warning. I leaned over as far as I could so that my butt was pretty much exposed to his eyes. I hoped he took the bait. I did not need another fine on this car.
‘Here you go officer,” I called sitting back in my seat. I looked up and his lips were half parted and watching me. He didn’t even go back to his car; all he did was look my papers over. I knew I would get a warning to drive more carefully.
“Well these seem to check out. In the future, please drive more carefully,” bingo! He handed me everything back, including his card. I ripped that up after he walked away. Males and their hormones………
