There was an age when souls blended,
When billions lived as one,
They were like sparkling diamonds,
Beneath the Shining Sun.
Their connection was deep and strong,
Their love seemingly boundless,
The 'wild' animals we keep in cages,
Were then considered harmless.
Man was kind to animal,
Who was their life - long friend,
But this age of peace, of blissfulness,
Was one day bound to end,
Like the land on Earth split apart,
So did our ways and minds,
The animals who had served us,
Now find themselves in binds.
As humans slowly modernized,
The love began to frost,
In a flash, the time passed by,
The connection was lost.
