Unexpected Harmonies

(12th Grade Get-together Party)

The stage was set, and I was a bundle of nerves. My turn to perform was coming up, and even though I'd only had three days to practice, it felt like forever.  I'd sung in front of crowds before, back at my old school, but this felt different.  My stomach was doing flips.

"Hey, Joyce, you okay?" Alfred asked, noticing my anxious face.  "You look a little pale."

"I'm fine," I said, trying to sound confident.  "Just a little nervous."

"Don't worry," he said, putting a hand on my shoulder. "You're going to be great.  Just remember, it's not a competition.  Just have fun."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves.  "Thanks, Alfred," I said.  "I needed to hear that."

I excused myself to the restroom and splashed some water on my face.  I took a deep breath and reminded myself that this was a chance to share something I loved.  I needed to enjoy it.

I went back to get my guitar and started tuning it.  "Hey, Joyce, you can do it!" I heard Alfred say.  "You're going to rock this!"

I smiled.  "Thanks, Alfred.  I'm going to try."

As I walked onto the stage, the crowd's applause washed over me.  My heart was pounding, but I tried to focus on the music.  I saw Alfred in the audience, giving me a thumbs-up.  His support made me feel a little braver.

 I strummed the first chord and started to sing

I strummed the first chord and started to sing.  But then, disaster struck.  The guitar string snapped, and my instrument suddenly went silent.

"Oh no!" I thought.  "This is awful!"

I kept singing, but I was starting to panic.  I didn't want to let everyone down, especially Alfred.  He'd been so supportive.

Just as I was about to reach the chorus, I heard another guitar join in.  I turned around and saw Alfred standing there, playing along with me.  He had a guitar in his hands!  I had no idea he could play.

"Wow!" I thought.  "This is amazing!"

We finished the song together, and the crowd went wild.  They cheered and clapped, and we both laughed.

"That was awesome!" Alfred said, as we walked off the stage.  "I'm glad I could help."

"Thanks, Alfred," I said.  "You saved the day."

Later, as we walked home, I couldn't help but tease him.  "You didn't tell me you could play the guitar!" I said.

He laughed.  "I can play a little," he admitted.  "But I'm not that good."

"You were amazing!" I said.  "I'm so grateful you were there."

"No problem," he said.  "I'm always here for you."

We walked in comfortable silence for a while.  Then, Alfred said something that surprised me.  "Your eyes are so beautiful when you sing," he said.  "It's like two moons have fallen from heaven."

I laughed.  "Wait, are you saying I have big eyes?" I asked.

We both laughed.  It was a silly moment, but it made me feel good.

I realized that this wasn't just a fun night out.  It was a memory I'd cherish forever.  Alfred had been my rock, and I knew we'd be there for each other, no matter what.  We'd face the future together, supporting each other and discovering new things about ourselves along the way.

🍀YOU'RE EVERYTHING
I WANTED🍀

🎶Your face lights up the sky on the highway.
Someday, you'll share your world with me someday.

You mesmerize me with diamond eyes;
I try to fool myself to think I'll be alright.
But I am losing all control -
My mind, my heart, my body and my soul

Never in my life have I been more sure,
So come on up to me and close the door.
Nobody's made me feel this way before;
You're everything I wanted and more. 🎶
