Episode Two

INT - Emergency Room - Night

"Me, Andrew and Sensei all sit in thew waiting room as the local news played on the television. We watch silently as a news reporter stood in front of the brick walls of the recreation center just outside a line of yellow tape. Sensei watched with an angry expression as Andrew breathed heavily. I stare at the news coverage, motionless, the incident playing again and again in my mind. The buzzing from the overhead lights were almost deafening*

*How could I let this happen?*

"Sensei gets out of his seat, stretching sideways as he cracked his neck"

Sensei

Well, Shari, you've really outdone yourself this time.

"Me and Andrew looked up at him"

Sensei

Your anime protagonist fantasy has finally come to life. What's next? Revenge training arc? 

Me

I mean, what was I supposed to do?

Sensei

Your action, or lack thereof, directly led to that young woman's death.

Me

I mean, I couldn't beat him in Storm, Sensei. He was too powerful!

Sensei

Fuck Storm! He had his back to us! Why didn't you attack him before it even got to that point?!

"I stare at Sensei, speechless"

Sensei

(Angrily raising voice) I said why didn't you do anything!?

Me

(Hanging head down in disappointment, talking under my breath) Because...

Sensei

Because what?!

Me

I wanted to see how strong Andrew and Cruz were in Storm...

"The room falls silent for a moment. Sensei shakes his head and laughs to himself in disbelief"

Me

(Looks up to him pleadingly) I mean, think about it! With everyone's life on the line they had no choice but to show their true potential!

Sensei

Or choke. 

"I look at Andrew for a brief moment. He didn't return my gaze as he was blankly staring at the ground"

Me

I...I didn't think they would. 

Sensei

So you put a video game over everyone's lives. Nice work. 

Me

Technically, our ability to overpower that guy in Storm didn't correspond with that girl's livelihood. She died despite the fact that we won. 

Sensei

(Shakes his head) Always have to be right. You know Shari, you aren't an anime character. Stop acting like one. 

Me

(Angrily) I mean, you didn't do anything either! And neither did Cruz when the guy had his back turned to us! Don't act like I'm the only one at fault!
