We had stayed up for what felt like hours just kissing and touching each other, but never crossing the line into anything further. The fire had been warm, the house felt so incredibly cosy.

I could have done that forever, if I had been allowed to. After a while, Buggy admitted that he was exhausted. He had said it in a voice that was so slurred. It was clear he had been tired for a while and had held out for as long as he could manage.

So, we went to sleep, cuddled up together, him naked, and fallen asleep in each others arms.

When I awoke, I found myself alone, and the fire out. When I looked through the windows, I saw that it was daytime. Still, a part of me panicked when I saw no sign of Buggy. I even checked upstairs to see if he'd maybe just wondered about. Nope. He was gone.

My mind began to really panic. I wasn't super educated on hypothermia, but I imagined you were supposed to rest for at least a couple of days.

I got on my warmest clothes and headed into the town, which was a state. However, to my surprise, clowns were cleaning it up. I was shocked. Beyond shocked, really.

I saw Dilly, with a broom, sweeping up glass. When I walked up to her, instead of greeting me with her normal smile or hug, she just glared at me. That stopped me dead in my tracks.

"Dilly, what's happening?"

"Your little boyfriend has commanded us to clean up as much as we can. Also, we can't steal anything from this town. It's bullshit."

"And we know who's to blame," a voice said from behind me.

When I looked, it was Bozo. He was tall, looming over me with a look of venom on his face. It made my blood run cold.

I couldn't even deny it because it was my fault. I had pushed him not to steal from this town. I had made a promise to Henrik. He had saved Buggy. We owed this town this much. Moreover, it was just wrong to steal from this town anyway.

In doing so, I had probably turned Buggy's clowns even more against him than they had previously been. I felt both relieved for the town, but terrified for Buggy.

"The blow job you gave him for this must have been pretty good," Dilly muttered under her breath.

It shocked me. She was my friend, or so I had thought.

"Dilly, I didn't... Buggy almost died. A man from this town saved him, gave him CPR, and really fought to save his life. Don't you think your captains life is worth not destroying one town for?"

For a moment, she seemed to seriously consider it. I thought maybe I had gotten through to her, but then Bozo spoke up.

"He almost drowned because of you. It's you who should repay this town not us. But of course, you have no way to repay this town because you're nothing but a slave, a map."

I furrowed my eyebrows and suppressed the urge to knock him straight out. I didn't want to make this worse by causing a fight.

"The ice skating was his idea, I didn't force him to go."

"You think we'll believe that the great captain Buggy is planning ice skating dates?" Bozo asked as if it was the most ridiculous idea ever.

"He did," I tried, but knew nobody was buying it.

They really didn't know Buggy. He was softer, more romantic than they could ever grasp. They just saw him as this cold killer.

Bozo suddenly grabbed my collar, lifting me up so I had to go on my tiptoes to be able to breathe.

In my face, he said, "You think just because you're fucking Buggy you're untouchable. You'll be dead within the month."

With that, he let me go and stormed off. I was speechless. When I looked at Dilly, she was smiling like a cheshire cat. As if this were funny. As if she didn't care about me at all. It shouldn't have been surprising - I mean, she's a killer, one of Buggy's clowns, why did I think she could be my real friend?
