"Look, it's Frida!"
The silhouette of Frida Kahlo and a dancer step up to the security guard.
"Yes, it is I. Frida Kahlo. And my personal dancer as well."
The security guard lets them in immediately. No need to check the list, "It is an honor, señora!"
"Gracias..."
Hector steps onto the funicular, readjusting his unibrow to maintain his disguise. Y/N steps in front of him, and the two fistbumped each other. The spirit looks at Hector, "So, what's the plan?" She whispers.
Hector clears his throat and points to the window, "Well, the window of opportunity." The party guests move outside to watch the light show. Y/N nods her head, "The hall will be empty." Hector lifts her head to him, "I know this is bad timing, but, you look and sound like my baby sister. Same name as well."
Y/N snorts and sings softly, "Hmm, wind's howling/ Summoning snow/ Land so vast/ Between them both/ Wolf is seeking/ Out the swallow/ Bound by fate/ Or something more?/ Wind's Howling/ Wind's Howling..."
She pauses and glances at Hector to see him stare at her, "Pequeña..." The spirit smiles, "Hermano mayor..." Hector throws his arms around his sister, "How? I thought I would never see you again." Y/N buries her head against his neck and shoulder bones, softly letting tears fall from her eyes, "I missed you, Hector."
"And to find out my sister has been with me tonight this entire time." Hector replies cheerfully, making her chuckle. The funicular stops, and the two get off. "All right, hermanita, let's go!" Hector and Y/N sprint out of the lift and straight towards a door.
At the same time, the hall has emptied, and the lights are turned down. Bursts of color from outside flash across the walls. The only light coming from inside the hall are de la Cruz's film clips that continue to play on the walls. De la Cruz and Miguel descend the staircase into the empty hall.
"Soon, the party will move across town for my 'Sunrise Spectacular!' Miguel, you must come to the show! You will be my guest of honor!" De La Cruz spoke. Miguel's eyes light up, "You mean it?!"
"Of course, my boy!"
Miguel's chest swells. Then deflates. He lifts his shirt, revealing the skeletal transition partway up his torso, "I can't... I have to get home before sunrise." De La Cruz gasps, "Oh, I really do need to get you home." De la Cruz plucks a marigold petal from a vase. "It has been an honor. I am sorry to see you go, Miguel. I hope you die very soon."
Miguel's face drops in shock. De La Cruz chuckles, "You know what I mean." Y/N and Hector arrive to see the two stand next to each other, "Miguel. I give you my bles--" De La Cruz stops at the sound of Hector's voice, "We had a deal, chamaco!"
They are startled. "Who are you? What is the meaning of this?" The singer spoke. From the shadows, Héctor, dressed as Frida, and Y/N, dressed as the dancer, step into the light. "Oh, Frida! I thought you couldn't make it." De La Cruz spoke with a confused smile.
Héctor takes off the wig and throws his outfit off, "You said you'd take back my photo. You promised, Miguel." Miguel turns, backing into de la Cruz's arms. De la Cruz rises to his feet, hands defensively on Miguel's shoulders, "You know this, uh... man?"
"I just met him tonight. He told me he knew you--"
"Miguel. Come away from him." Y/N holds out her hand. Héctor steps forward with the photo, and de la Cruz slowly recognizes him and Y/N, "Hé-- Héctor? Y/N?" Y/N stays close to Hector as he bends down to Miguel, "Please, Miguel, put my photo up." Héctor pushes the photo into Miguel's hands. De la Cruz intercepts it. He looks from the picture to the gray, faded skeleton who kneels before him. Héctor looks weak.
