Dr.Han had her night duties on a cold night, few nurses were available on that day so she made her around in the wards.
After checking in with every patient, she was finally heading to her cabin until she stopped in front of the intersession area where the nurse station was. The nurses greet her but she remains frozen, like she saw someone who wasn't supposed to be there.
"Dr.Han?" The nurses shook her bit and she glanced at her before turning her focus to the dark part of the space.
"Is everything okay?" The other nurse asks, being worried. Dr.Han looks confused and sweat builds on her forehead.
"Have you checked Min's quarter?" She asks, being in a hurry. The nurse follows her as she tells her the report of this certain patient.
She walked up to the cabin and saw the male, sleeping on his bed, attached to the saline. But something was feeling off, she couldn't put her finger down. She walks in as quietly as she can be, her heels are clicking on the floor as she reaches the bed. The male's chest was heaving up and down, breathing peacefully as he slept. She eyes the room, to find any unusual thing. While looking her eyes landed on the window sill, she walked there and saw a note. Her blood runs cold as she picks it up, hands shaking.
It was folded nicely and the paper felt cold because of the atmosphere. She picked it up and carefully unfolded it, she saw neat handwriting which she recognized instantly. Her heartbeat was fast as she read the note. It only held one word.
' Hope. '
"Dr.Han, what is it?" The nurse whispers as she creeps on her, Dr. Han crumbles the note into her lab coat pocket before turning to the nurse who looks curious.
"Nothing. Let's go. If he sleeps and takes his medicines regularly, he will be okay." The nurse nods as she leads the doctor out of the room. As the doctor was passing by the patient, she heard a faint voice..saying...
' Hello, Doctor. '
A shiver ran down her spine as she stood, without any movement, afraid to look back as well. A cold wind passed her as she was passing the patient and then there was this sweet youthful voice.
Dr.Han was scared for the first time in her whole life.
The morning came quickly and the incident from the night was vanishing slowly but it was eating Dr. Han alive. She wasn't doing well, her headache was killing her, and she couldn't rest or close her eyes just in case she heard the voice again. But why now? Why after all these years? It's been a while since that incident but why it is bothering her now? The case ran cold since no one suspected anything and blamed it on mental illness which is a common issue nowadays.
"Mental illness..huh.." Dr. Han says to her as she stares at the ceiling, talking to herself as she remembers how people feel ashamed to say that word out loud.
But more dangerous than simple mental illness is...depression. Many young people lose their lives in the battle of depression and the case is getting heavy on their numbers. Many of them were labeled as having 'mental illness' while most were labeled as 'crazy'.
A heavy sigh leaves her mouth as she leans back, the phone starts to ring as she is trying to close her eyes.
"Yes, Dr. Han here." She listens to the receptionist who was called and nods.
"Is he here?" She gets up and grabs her coat while talking on the phone, balancing the receiver on her shoulder and ear.
"Okay, I'll be down in a minute." She cuts the call before dashing out, apologizing to anyone who bumped into her. She ran to the elevator that was closing and got inside at the last minute.
It took her to the ground floor, she walked fast toward the cafeteria as she passed by some patients and their guardians. Once she entered the cafeteria, the smell of hospital food hit her nose, making her nauseous at once.
She walks inside and searches for the person whom she is waiting for. Once she located the blonde male, she walked up to him and sat down across him. He didn't notice her until she cleared her throat.
"Oh, doctor. I didn't notice you.." the male says, his deep voice sounds so depressing now. His eyes lost hope which was visible to notice and his face didn't look like he was hurting himself, his hair was newly dyed may be a sign of moving on but still there needed more work to that.
"How are you?" Dr.Han asked, looking at the male who looked confused by the simple question.
"Mentally or physically?" He asked, unsure of what the doctor asked him.
"Both." She replies, the male looks a little confident about his answer now.
"Okay ..." Dr.Han sighs bringing her hand to the table, and gathering the courage to talk to this male.
"I need to talk ..." The male looks up, confused by the sudden sentence.
"About what?" He asks, dead-looking eyes staring at the doctor, seeking an answer.
"About ...him." the doctor says as she exhales. The male looks scared like it was a very unwanted topic to discuss.
"I can't..I'm sorry ...I should go-" the male panicked and started to get up on his feet. But the doctor grabs his hands, making him stop.
"Taehyung, please! I need to know! I have to know to save another life! Please!" The male looks at the desperate doctor and the male can see that the doctor doesn't mean any harm.
"Are you..sure?" He asks, unsure about the answer.
"Yes, please. Let me know about him."
