Another day passed and I woke up in the guards' room, staring at the ceiling in the early morning as I was laying on my bed, just a minute before going to get ready for the day. My duty for this morning would be to watch and guard on the king before his morning shift, as usual, normally I would get up and ready heading to his room as fast as I could, but this time thoughts started forming in my head, so I gave myself some time sinking into the worrying arguments I had in my mind. It's been a while now and my lord wasn't acting the same towards me, not the warm and polite man he always was in my company. Instead he's been distant, cold, almost as bitter as the rose tea he always used to drink, and overall paranoic, growing more conscious about every little detail around him. Usually he would relax totally when with me, knowing he was safe with me and my blade. He's more worried now though, am I not doing my job properly? Before asking myself too many questions and receiving so little answers I slowly got up from my bed and got ready for my shift, I needed to know what was wrong, I needed to talk to him.Once I took my helmet and put my green cape on, I was ready to head out. Only after a small sigh I let go out of worry, I opened the door and started walking through the hallways of the palace I knew as the back of my hand, heading to my king's room. After some minutes of walking I was almost there, some anxiety growing inside of me, but nothing a small talk with my lord couldn't cure. As i got near i noticed Sir. Eric and Kenny talking near the library, I did not want to stop by, so I went on and walked straight ahead, but before I could go any further i heard cartman call my name out loud.
"Stan! Oh my, did they forget to tell you? The king ordered for you to go help at the cells today morning, you should head there as soon as possible !"
I felt weirded out by such strange request, in my whole life as Kyle's personal guard, he never ordered for me to go anywhere but by his side, I couldn't really believe what he said. I stayed silent, I didn't know whether to believe that sentence before asking the king about it, but Kenny spoke to me soon after:
"Yeah, I heard there's been some problems at the cells, I'm not really sure though"The other guard said while shrugging his shoulders.
This felt unreal and weird to me, I knew this didn't sit right.
"But my duty is to guard the king during his morning, I cannot leave the shift and my lord like that."
I could swear I saw eric smiling under his nose right after my sentence, before he spoke out
"I'll watch over him, do not worry, you can go work and be back as soon as possible to your oh so loved king !"I did not trust this, something was wrong and i could tell by the confused look Kenny gave me when i turned towards him, hoping to get a better explanation. Eric must have seen i wasn't convinced, so he called over one of the maids
"Hey Heidi ! Can you come here just a second?"
Heidi who was sweeping around the hallway approached us and asked the other what he wanted
"Isn't it true the others need help at the cells and the king ordered Stan to go help them?"I could see Heidi unsure about her words, but she soon after exclaimed
"Oh yes, sorry i forgot to tell you Stanley! It's my fault"
She said bowing down before me and leaving the hallway, heading back to her job.
"See? I told you Stan, I'm no liar"
Cartman said before pushing me towards the other way of the castle
"Now go and hurry up, so you can come back to the King!"
So I started walking towards the cell room, feeling unsure though about the whole thing.Once i got there, the others guards were actually surprised to see me there.
"We don't recall asking for help,,"
They said after I spoke out about the "king's new request", which they affirmed they never heard of before. But as I was about to leave the room they stopped me."Actually Sir. can you help us with our new prisoner? He's not an easy one, we are having troubles supervising him."
So I stopped by, helping them for some time, long enough for them to check on the prisoner to see if he did have any weapon on him.
