I stayed and watched the TV for a while as the two vampires made the food for me. I wasn't sure whether or not vampires ate human foods. By the way it smelled they at least knew how to cook it, even if they didn't eat it. Soon though Paxton did call for me to come and join them in the kitchen, so I did that and saw they had set out a full buffet style of food.
"Come sit down and pick out your food" Paxton told me with a small smile on his face.
I did as he said and filled my plate with waffles, bacon, eggs and some sausage. I wasn't a fan of pancakes so I didn't touch them all I did was pick the things I knew I would eat. The table had only three place settings so I figured that I would be sitting with them to eat. So, I took a seat next to Paxton as Daniel was sat at the head of the table.
I wasn't sure why, but I had a small feeling I was growing a connection toward Paxton. This was rare for me as I wasn't one to for building relationships very well with others. I was a very shy kid growing up and it never really went away once I became an adult. Yeah, I was only nineteen however I was still considered an adult in the eyes of the human government. I say the human government because I am not sure what the vampire government thought about age in humans.
"You seem deep in thought over there little dude, what's on your mind?" Daniel asked with a small chuckle.
I froze lightly, but knew it was disrespectful to ignore him so I gathered up as much courage as I could before speaking to him. "Yeah, just thinking about the war and what's going on now compared to what went on before."
"Oh sweety, you don't have to worry your little head about anything like that anymore. We are here to take care of you and keep you safe from everything." Paxton commented trying to calm my nerves that weren't really there right now.
"I am not really worried about being safe, if I die, I die I'm just thinking about everything that happened to lead up to this point in my life."
They shared a look of almost concern for me at my statement. I mean I wasn't lying, I wasn't really scared of dying, I was more scared of being here than death. They were vampires for god sakes, why would I be scared of anything else right now if I was basically kidnapped by bloodsuckers. Although very attractive bloodsuckers they were still vampires and I was not going to pretend that I wasn't terrified.
"Well death won't come very soon for you, we aren't here to hurt you in any way shape or form" Paxton told me gently. "Like I said we are here to take care of you and keep you as safe as possible."
I tried my best not to roll my eyes at his statement, it was still hard to believe that they didn't want to hurt me. Drinking my blood, I could understand because well they are vampires. However, believing they didn't want to harm a human now, after all the death that was caused by vampires, was a pill I wouldn't be swallowing. This world wasn't perfect before they took over, it was actually falling apart at the seams. Now it seems like everything was put back together within the course of two weeks.
"It's adult things that Daniel and I will worry about okay honey, so try not to worry about it okay?" Paxton said with sweetness in his voice.
"I am an adult, albeit a young adult in the eyes of the law I am still considered an adult."
"To the humans you were, now you are considered a child again since we vampires out live humans by centuries." Daniel finally spoke up.
There it was, that's why I was here, to be a child again for these people. I knew vampires couldn't have children, from all the mythical books I had read.
"So that's what this is, a way to play house?"
Their faces fell lightly, "not play house, we really want a family and hope that you will be part of it."
Family wasn't something that I was used to, my family was very broken growing up. Then the war left me without my parents, although I wasn't really upset about it, I still lost the only family I had.
"Okay."
That was all I could say about it, I didn't have much of an opinion about it. Maybe a new family could be a good thing, you never know what might happen.
After breakfast Paxton and Daniel cleaned up and asked if we could talk about the dynamic that was to be expected soon. So I sat down with them in the living room once again to have this talk.
"The first thing we would like to start with is your age as of right now" Paxton explained. "With your age as a human for a vampire that is around one or two years of age. This would mean that you are still in diapers or pull ups and starting to learn how to walk. This helps explain your room a tad bit more I hope."
It did explain the room, more importantly the crib. Diapers and pull ups? I'm used to wearing those, as I still had accidents from past trauma. I guess now I wouldn't have to be as embarrassed to wear them as I was before. Learning to walk, means being carried a lot, I didn't mind that as I hated walking.
"Paxton and I would be considered your parents, and would like to be addressed as your parents. We are aware some of this might take some time to get used to and we won't push it on you. We want you to take your time and really feel your role over being forced into it." Daniel told me.
I nodded letting that part sink in. I wouldn't be forced to do anything I didn't want to do yet. I could have gotten stuck with unreasonable vampires but I got put with very understanding ones.
"Now we do have you on a schedule where you sleep during the night and are awake during the day. However, we would like that to change so that Daniel and I can get sleep as well. The windows are blocked out with black out curtains seeing as during the day we could be subject to the sun. It doesn't kill us but it can harm us immensely, like third degree burns on a human."
That was a myth that was wrong. All the books told us that sunlight kills vampires, now I know that's not true. I guess it made more sense now if I thought about it. You can't really spontaneously combust, why should vampires be able to?
"I'm a night owl so that's fine" I reassured them.
"Do you have any questions?" Daniel inquired.
"More like my own comments. Diapers and pull ups are fine, I have accidents due to past trauma so I've worn them for years. I know that the whole learning to walk means a lot of carrying. This I also don't mind as I hate walking in the first place." This made them both chuckle, "and it might take me some time but I'm sure I can address you both as dad in some way."
The two smiled softly at me, "well we have a few more hours of daylight left, do you feel tired? If not we can give you some sleeping meds to help so we can start transitioning to overnight."
I was tired, for some reason I didn't feel like I had slept well and needed more sleep.
"I think I can fall asleep on my own."
"Great, did you want help changing or do you want to do it?" Paxton asked.
"Just point where everything is and I can do it from there."
