PROLOGUE

1324 BC

The brunette woman walked through the town as the moon shone brightly overhead, a smile on her face as she watched the townspeople bolt their windows and doors.

"As if that could keep me out," She thought to herself.

As she continued on, she began singing lightly under her breath, a song her mother had sung to her so long ago.

The tune floated through the air, her soft tone echoing throughout the night, reaching the ears of a young man far away, intriguing him into following it to her.

He ran at an inhuman speed towards the noise, stopping suddenly in front of the young woman, their blood-red eyes meeting in the dark.

The pale man's eyes widened, and he stepped back in fear, but the woman simply smiled kindly at him, holding her hand out to him.

"Hello, young one," her voice was soft as silk, drawing him in, and before he knew it, he'd placed his hand in hers, staring down at it in astonishment before looking back to her face.

She was short. 5'3 compared to his 6'2. But something about the way she held herself, the way she hadn't flinched when he'd appeared in front of her, the way she called him 'young one' made it obvious who was the more experienced of the two.

"I am Celestia," She told him, smiling up at him in a calming manner, and the young man felt the tension leave his shoulders as he watched her, a small smile on his face now as well.

"I am Marcus. It's a pleasure to meet you, Celestia," he told her, voice small as he watched her.

His words caused her smile to grow, and she began walking again, leading him through the town.

The young man didn't know why, but he trusted this small woman with his life. He would follow her to the ends of the earth and never tire of her presence.

"The pleasure's all mine, Marcus."

EIGHT YEARS LATER - 1316 BC

The raven-haired boy looked down at his hands in horror, the crimson blood staining them, and he could feel the stickiness of it on his face and neck, too. He stood clumsily, running for the door, alarmed when he slammed into the wood, breaking through it barely a second later. He looked around in fright, forcing himself back to his feet as he took off for the surrounding woods, disappearing into the dense trees a moment later.

He ran for what felt like mere minutes before he tripped over a root protruding from the ground, landing harshly on the ground with a loud cry.

He grabbed his leg in pain, scrambling back until he felt tree bark digging into his back, looking around in fear.

He'd come into the small town looking for work, and an older man had approached him, offering a position on his farm a little ways from the small settlement. The next thing he knew, he was waking up, his throat on fire, then a short period of black before he'd woken up again, covered in blood.

He was brought from his thoughts by a soft, worried voice.

"Are you alright?" The voice called, causing his head to whip in the direction it had come from, spotting two people. A tall brunette man, looking to be in his mid-twenties, and a much shorter brunette woman, seemingly no older than twenty herself.

It was the woman who spoke; he was sure of it, especially as she stepped forward, face twisted in concern, the man staying in place, his face twisted into a concerned look as well.
