After a busy day, Taylor, Joe and Jessica were on their way to the math club, taking their usual places as they waited for the professor to arrive.
"Hey Joe, I talked to my parents, and they gave me permission to eat at your house next week" he smiled as he finished the sentence.
"I'm sorry, Taylor, but I'm going to be really busy next week."
"Oh, that's okay, maybe another day" their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of the professor
The days went by and classes continued as normal, except for working in a couple with a strange guy named Drew, she of course expected to work with Joe or even Jessica, not a complete stranger.
She arranged to meet Drew after school at the coffee shop two blocks from her house, but he never arrived, the rain took her by surprise, so she decided to run home. When she was a few minutes away from getting home she was surprised to see Joe arrive at her house with Jessica, they were laughing a lot, that made her feel very upset didn't he tell her that he would be busy during the week? She hadn't laughed at all the jokes they had made about him? Why did she feel that way? Wasn't she supposed to dislike him? It was a lot of questions, she didn't realize she was crying until she felt a tear run down her cheek, wiped it away and kept running home.
She arrived home completely soaked, so she took a shower, thousands of questions still roaming through her head, her thoughts were interrupted by her mother calling her room.
"Honey, is everything okay? You've been in there a long time."
"Yes."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"Dinner is almost ready, get dressed, don't be late, we'll be waiting for you."
She couldn't stop thinking about how happy Joe and Jessica looked together, until a napkin landed on her head
"Is everything okay, honey?" her mother asked again.
"Yes, sorry, I can't stop thinking about all the math homework there is to do."
"That's just what we were asking you, how are you doing in math club?" her father interjected.
"I think everything is going well, Austin, could you help me with something later?"
"I don't understand how you're in math club, if you don't understand it"
"Austin, don't bother your sister."
"I'm sorry, but you should at least admit I'm right, she's kind of dumb, her thing is more guitar and literature."
"Austin, could we please finish dinner without fighting for once?" His mother's voice was heard before she could answer his brother.
"When can we visit the record labels?" Taylor interrupted the very awkward silence that had formed.
"Probably after your 16th birthday, it won't be long sweetie, don't be impatient" his mother smiled at him.
"We have to see your grades first" she hated that stupid rule of her father's so much
"Then Taylor will probably never record one of her songs" again her brother with a sarcastic comment that he knew would hurt her
"Honey, what did you say your friend's name was? The one who invited you to lunch?"
"Emily" She doesn't even know any Emily.
"Let me know when you go to his house, I don't want you to go empty-handed."
"I probably won't go anymore, we have too much homework to do" actually her friend, who was actually Joe, had stopped talking to her, and now she had a new friend
The next day, while she and Abigail were discussing a book they had been reading, Jessica came very animated towards them.
"Hi girls, A what won't you guess who I was with yesterday?"
"I haven't the slightest idea, so sit down and tell us" Abigail said just as animated as Jessica pulling a chair over to the table, Taylor of course knew who she had been with yesterday, which made her uncomfortable.
"You sure are smart, befriending the nerd to do your homework, you have my respects, girl" Abigail high-fived the smiling girl next to her.
"I don't know, I don't think it's right, you might hurt his feelings."
"The important thing is that I'll pass math, you better tell us how it went for you yesterday with Drew, he's so cool"
"I don't find him cool at all, standing up his teammate, I didn't sleep for finishing the work by myself" Taylor said quite annoyed
"Relax, Taylor" Jessica laughed putting a hand on Taylor's shoulder "Come to think of it Joe isn't that boring, we bake cookies, we play with his little brother who is pretty funny, we even drank wine at dinner yesterday"
Joe had baked cookies for someone else, he had invited someone else to eat while she had been turned away, she felt upset, wanting to cry, Joe is a stupid traitor
