Violet's POV

"Mika!! Eren! hey, wait up!" I called out while running over with a basket of food hugged in my arms, my two friends turned to me and smiled "Oh Violet! hey there shopping for your mom?" Eren asked as he grinned at me, but what he got was me blinking at him "You got in another fight!? You're all black and blue!" I scolded him, I was a few years older than my two friends so I felt like an older sister, "You sound like my mom! I had to Armin was being bullied again!" I stared at the emerald-eyed boy and sighed before looking at Mikasa with a small frown "Mika, I feel sorry for you... you had to rush in again didn't you?"

"you don't need to feel sorry... I had to" she said as she held her scarf to her nose nuzzling it as she often did "Try protecting Mika for once! You so troublesome!" I scolded Eren again earning me a groan from him "your sounding just like my mom!" "and what a wise woman she is!" I retorted back to him before looking around "Now where is Armin!"

With that question asked they both led me to find Armin, we all sat down at the stairs overlooking the River "They really did a number on you didn't they Armin..." I murmured gently applying Armin to the grazes on his face "I'm alright... they're just small-minded..." he murmured with a faint smile "That's right, and only boneheads would pick on someone as adorable as you" I said playfully causing him to blush which made me think he was even more adorable.

I put the ointment away and hummed "Did they take anything from you?" I asked tilting my head, he looked at me confused and thought for a moment "Just some bread and milk..." he murmured looking down "It was 3 days' worth of food!" Eren barked in annoyance for Armin, i found and nodded before I stood "Hey you guys wait here? I'll be right back okay?"

"wait what are you going to do?" my blond little friend asked with a worried look, i smiled tucking my white hair behind my ear and gently patting his head "Just wait..." I left the Golden Trio and went on my way to the market.

I counted my allowance and hummed 3 days' worth of food was taken, I could technically get them a week's worth with what I had, and with such thoughts in the process, I nodded to myself and went to do just that, I grabbed a second basket and brought 4 loaves of bread, two sticks of butter, a full carrier of milk and a few wrapped fresh fish, by the time I had finished gathering everything, it was too heavy for me to carry and I had run out of money.

"That's a bit much for a little girl like you to carry need some help?" a familiar voice called out from behind me, I looked up and smiled "Uncle Hannes and im not that small!" he chuckled and picked up the two baskets for me "your smaller than the rest of the kids your age... but Didn't I see you shopping earlier for food? it's not like you to buy more," my uncle asked as he took my hand in his free one "Armin got bullied again, so I got a gift for him and his grandad" I explained smiling up to him, "your such a good girl, your mother must be proud to have such a daughter like you"

Mr Hannes walked with me to Armin's home i dared not tell Armin he'd cry and not accept anything, he would still cry when he found out none the less but I could not do anything, we reached Mr Arlert's home and Hannes knocked on the door, in no time it was opened and the elderly man looked at us confused "good afternoon Mr Hannes, and Dear Violet, what brings you here?" he asked with a smile before i let go of my uncle's hand and reached up for one of the baskets that had the food i brought for the Arlert's.

The basket was handed over and I struggled to carry it but shakily held it to the man who noticed my struggle and took it quickly "It's for you Grandpa Arlert, Armin... he has bullied again today don't tell him I told you he'll be upset, so this is a gift for you both" he smiled and slowly brought me into a hug "your such a good girl Violet, thank you very much, but let me pay you back" he said as he let go and went to grab his pouch of money but I jumped back "nope! It's a gift! and  paying someone for a gift is like giving the gift back and, once you give a gift you can't take it back!... I'll be upset if Grandpa Arlert did that!" I gave him the fake puppy eyes and small grin and he chuckled setting his pouch of money away "All alright, alright you win" he said dotingly.

"Tell Amin I said hi! my mother might be home now i want to see her!" she said with a grin before I jumped up took the other basket of food from Mr Hannes and ran off "Straight home Violet! Don't get lost!" I waved with one hand to the two and went home, Eren was impatient I knew I would make Armin and Mikasa go home so I didn't go back to them, I was on my way to see my mother before I met them and now I couldn't wait anymore I was too excited.

"mother! Mother I'm home!" I ran into my home hoping to see the woman I had been waiting for to be there and ready to greet me, but all that greeted me was silence, my smile faded and I looked around "Mother?..." she hadn't come home, I was still alone, I looked down at my food and frowned, I had brought a cake earlier to welcome mother home with but she wasn't here.

in silence I waited sitting at the dinner table with two plates set, I waited for many hours for my mother, my eyes did not leave the door but she never came, my mother was a soldier, of the survey corps today they were returning, she said she would be here, I missed the return of the soldiers because I was so excited to see her. I didnt have a father he died when I was younger, eaten by a titan he was also a soldier, mother tried to be with me as much as possible but I was 17, half of my life she has been with the soldiers, she comes home for two days a week sometimes three, today was supposed to be one of those days.

I looked down at the necklace I had never taken off, it was a beautiful silver pendant in the shape of a heart, inside the picture of me and my parents on one door when I was a lot younger, and on the other side a picture of me and my mother from a few months ago, I stared at my happy family which was no longer happy and tears threatened to spill, but I sucked it back and hoped that she was still busy which I could not hold against her, I hopped of my chair and made myself some tea, it was my mothers favourite and had become mine as of recent.

That night I did not sleep, I was awake waiting for my mother, i did this most nights, I hated being alone it was scary. but what was the worst that could happen, I wish I had never asked myself that question.
