"[Name]."

No response. "Hey, [Name]!"

Still, no response. "EARTH TO [Name] [Last Name]!!! Check this out!!"

The girl groaned and looked up from her journal. It was lunchtime at [Name]'s high school, and this usually meant free time to write in her favorite journal. But alas, she had people who wished to talk to her. [Name]'s schoolmates sat around her desk, and one was holding a card. There was a heart sticker for a stamp and it was signed in red ink pen. "Should I send this to my crush? Do you think he'll like it?" she asked.

[Name] only shrugged and went back to writing. Her friend groaned in frustration as she sat down beside her desk, straddling her chair. "Oh my GOD, [Name]! Look up from your book once in a while! Talk to us!! You're always writing in your book! I'm just so curious what you're writing about," another friend complained.

She tried looking into her book to read some of her works, but [Name] moved it away. It was her journal to write in! The girls sitting by her table scoffed and went back to their tables. They continued to talk about having a crush and whatnot, all while [Name] stayed silent, writing in her book. Her current obsession happened to be writing stories. One of them was about a pirate princess and her mission to obtain the highest bounty in the world. But there was someone who enjoyed seeing and reading her work. "Hey, [Name]."

It was her teacher. They smiled and sat beside her, glancing at her story. "Writing again?" they asked.

"Yeah. I have to add some lore to my story. It doesn't make sense right now. And I want it to make more sense," [Name] responded.

The teacher continued to watch their student write her story, clearly focused. After school, [Name] packed her things into her school bag and began her walk home. She passed a game shop which she loved to window shop at. Last time she checked, there were cool cards that seemed to be for a fun card game. But now there wasn't anything new. The same cards sat in the window, looking at her with their different designs and descriptions. Their laminated attack and defense points shimmered in the afternoon light as the sun began its slow descent below the horizon. By the time she got home, her parents were both in the kitchen, cooking dinner. "I'm home!" [Name] called.

Her mother was the first to greet her. "Ah, welcome home, sweetie!" she said.

"How was school?" her father asked, still tending to the food.

"Good," [Name] replied, going to sit on the couch.

She never intended to tell her family everything about her day. That's when her brother and sister ran into the living room, tackling their elder sister. "Do you have homework?" the brother asked.

"Did you find a boyfriend yet?" the sister asked.

[Name]'s eyes widened as she giggled, pushing both of them aside. She explained that she had no homework, nor had she found a significant other yet. She intended to take a slow and steady approach towards a relationship. At least that's what her parents say. By the time dinner was ready, the family sat at the table, conversing and enjoying food. [Name]'s mother had cooked salmon kushiyaki with glasses of water on the side. "Mmm~! ... AH!!! The food!! It's so spicy!!" the little sister cried.

The father chuckled and nudged the girl's glass of water closer to her so she could take a drink. Both the mother and brother exhaled wearily. [Name] giggled however and ate her food, taking a sip of water when needed. "Oh, sweetie! Just relax! It's not that spicy," the mother said.

"BUT IT HURTS MY MOUTH!!" the little sister exclaimed.

[Name] gave her a cup of milk, which doused the "flames" in her mouth easily. Maybe water wasn't always the best solution.

...

Later that night, as [Name] was about to go to sleep, she heard someone knock on the door. She slowly got out of bed and tied her [hair color] hair into a low ponytail with a ribbon as she walked downstairs. Nothing was happening. Her siblings were asleep. Her parents were also asleep. It was just [Name] in the dark and lifeless living room. That's when something caught her attention. There was a box sitting by the door. She walked to it and took it, putting it on the coffee table. [Name] then knelt and opened the box, seeing a VHS tape and an envelope. "Huh...? Doesn't mom always say not to open things unless they're around?" [Name] thought.

But they weren't awake now. And the knocking had been irritating her for hours by the time she had gotten up. So [Name] threw caution to the wind and inserted the VHS tape into the player, watching as a face appeared behind a silver backdrop. He had long hair that covered one eye, tan skin, and a hazel eye. "Greetings, [Name] [Last name]. I have decided to send this to you because I hear you used to play card games with your siblings when you were starting high school. Very interesting, if I do say so myself. Anyway, I want to invite you to the Duelist Kingdom. It could be a chance to show other Duelists what you know and what they don't know."

[Name] looked at the screen in shock. It was as if he was speaking right to her. But she already knew this face; Pegasus; creator of Duel Monsters. "But... I haven't played in forever... I started as a first-year student," she muttered.

"Well, that's alright. I insist you join the tournament. Maybe you'll win the grand prize and come home to your family. They can afford a better school. You may afford better friends and teachers. What do you say, [Name]? You must answer between tonight and 9 a.m."

He wanted an answer that soon. Then the VHS turned off, spitting the tape out of the player. [Name] was left sitting in the dark living room, shocked, amazed, and slightly creeped out. But she tossed the tape away and checked the other items in the box. [Name] opened the envelope to see three cards. One was a pile of gold. The other was a ship. And the other was an island with a castle in the middle. This must be a personal invite to the aforementioned Duelist Kingdom.
