A few days had passed since [Name] and Mako became closer friends. The angelfish nickname was getting to her head by then. What did he see in her that made her so... angelic? The thought almost got her caught by Pegasus for dozing off. She would stop writing mid-sentence, but catch up when she caught herself slacking. Or when one of the guards caught her slacking, that is. At least she didn't get herself injured while doing it. "You should be lucky, [Name]. You aren't getting whacked awake," one of the bodyguards said.
"Yeah... I should be thankful," she grumbled, writing more of Pegasus's biography.
Pegasus snickered and watched her as she wrote, seeing her gorgeous penmanship. Though, as she wrote, it appeared narrow. "[Name], write your letters a little spread out. It's too narrow," Pegasus critiqued.
"You're rushing me. How else am I gonna write every single word that you say? You aren't giving me time to finish a sentence. Why do you think I have blank spaces between the paragraphs?" [Name] shot back.
A few of the men shot her dirty looks behind their sunglasses while Pegasus turned to look at her. "[Name], my chi-"
"Don't you dare call me that."
"... [Name]. Do you think it's okay to talk back to people who have more power than you?" Pegasus said.
She shook her head, secretly not giving a rat's ass about it. One of the guards suddenly slapped [Name] in the face, but she made no sound, holding in her wince or cry of pain. The other bodyguards snickered as [Name] kept writing, not uttering a word afterward. "I hope you learn your lesson sooner or later, [Name]. You will never speak back to someone of higher power. I'm not only older but richer than you and your poor family."
[Name] stared daggers at him as she wrote, not looking at her paper. She didn't care if she was butchering the words as he spoke. God, she hated him.
...
That night, when [Name] met with Mako under the stars and dark cloudless sky, she saw no one. Not a single thing that reminded her of his presence. But still, there were the "angelfish" and "swordfish" doodles in the rocks; a reminder of their humorous attempts of drawing fish. "Mako? Are you trying to play a game?" [Name] asked, looking around.
Still, there was no one. No laughter or rustle coming from the bushes. [Name] exhaled and checked the little campsite they had stayed in, which used to belong to Hayami. But Mako wasn't there, either. Coming back to the cliffside, all seemed lost. But that's when she noticed a note carved in the rocks below her feet.
I'm sorry.
It confused her. That's when someone came out from the forest. He held the same lantern that Mako would hold during their nightly get-togethers. "He was sent on the ship back to Domino this morning. He begged the guards to let him send you one last note before his departure. ... This was all he could write."
Behind her was Yugi; or was it? His eyes were more... defined, as were the chunks of blonde hair that usually stayed down. Now a few were positioned upward or standing outward. And he was a few inches taller than the 5'0 stature Yugi usually had. She assumed about 5'3. "He... He left?" [Name] mumbled, eyes wide with shock.
"Yes... I apologize that you have to hear such news..."
[Name] chewed on her bottom lip. They took her friend away. They took her only source of happiness. What kind of people would do that? Pegasus and his men, that's for sure. "But... I thought he was a great duelist! Didn't he come in third place during the Duel Monsters regional championship?! What makes them think that they have the right to eliminate Mako?!" she yelled.
