Nova's eyes locked on the landscape beyond the window. The bustling environment of her school lay before her. She was known as the notorious and brilliant troublemaker of Millington High, a reputation that had earned her both respect and fear among her peers.

The school corridors buzzed with whispers of her latest escapade. The latest prank she'd pulled on the math teacher, Mr. Allec, had everyone talking, and her reputation only seemed to grow. As the clock neared two o'clock to signal school ending for the day, Nova decided it was time to make her way to the principal's office. Slipping her leather jacket over her shoulders, she couldn't help but smile. Creating chaos was her way of rebelling against a world that had once seemed determined to crush her spirit.

The door to his office was unlocked, a testament to her knack for knowing things others didn't. Nova slipped inside, the faint scent of old books and leather engulfing her senses. Principal Khumalo was hunched over his desk, a sea of paperwork before him, his reading glasses perched on the tip of his nose.

"My golden egg," he said as he looked up, his voice calm, but stilled filled with love. He had his arms already open for his daughter to come and hug him behind his desk. Everyone knew that Nova Khumalo was the daughter of the principal, making her somewhat royalty and also allowing her to misbehave and bare no consequence.

Nova stepped back from her father's embrace and switched to the CCTV footage of the school's parking lot. "Impressive, isn't it? My latest masterpiece," she said with a mischievous grin, taking a picture of the car, adorned with colorful balloons.

Lyle, her father finally glanced up, his hazel eyes meeting her own. "You certainly have a unique way of expressing yourself," he remarked, a hint of amusement in his voice.

"So, whatever could be the issue that my father offered to drive me home today?" Nova inquired, making herself comfortable on his desk, something he was used to.

She watched as her father began to arrange his belongings on the table she was sat on, getting ready to leave the office with his daughter but not once looking at her as he spoke.

Lyle chose his words carefully, trying to soften the blow. "Starting from next week, I won't be the principal anymore, Nova. They've decided to bring in someone new." He glanced at her, gauging her reaction.

Nova's eyes widened, and her throat tightened. "What? But... why? Dad, you've been here for years!"

He nodded, understanding the weight of the situation. "It's a decision from the board. They believe it's time for a change, and there's not much I can do about it."

Anger and frustration welled up within Nova. "This isn't fair! You've dedicated so much to this school, and now they just... replace you?"Lyle sighed, his shoulders slumping.

"Life isn't always fair, Nova. I wanted to tell you before the news spread. You mean everything to me, and I didn't want you to hear it from someone else."

The drive home was a heavy silence, broken only by the radio left on to lessen the tension by a percentage. The car pulled into the familiar driveway, and they both stepped out, the weight of the news lingering in the air. As they entered the house, Nova couldn't contain her emotions any longer. She headed straight to her room, her father following in concern, but was only locked out as he listened to his daughter shout in frustration.

He knew that it'd be hard on her unstoppable reputation in school is what kept her going since it can be hard at home for her. He could only hope that the new principal would go easy on her.
