Chapter 1: Building A Ship

There was a demon living on an island. One half of the island was always winter, the other half summer. The demon, Natalie, is seventeen years old, and she lives alone on the island with many animals. Natalie is a girl with fascinating eyes...one is midnight blue, and the other is dark red. Her long, wavy black hair is highlighted with red and blue, and she keeps it tied up in a ponytail. Her sleek, black tail wraps around her waist, so no one grabs it. When she is relaxed, she lets her tail swing freely.

Natalie wears an extremely heavy armor that no human could every lift. She has been wearing the black, red, and blue armor for as long as she remembers. Natalie has been teaching herself how to fight, how to take care of herself, and other things that she has had to learn on her own. Sadly, Natalie never had any parents to teach her anything or show her what is like to be loved and wanted by a parent.

She grew up with no parents or siblings, but she has one good friend that stood beside her through the years. It was an eagle that she made friends with. The eagle's name was Nikki. Natalie understood everything the eagle was saying. She had the ability to communicate with other living creatures.

Right now, she is sitting on the cliff, watching a few sharks swimming with the dolphins. They are getting along with each other. Nikki suddenly appears and goes to Natalie's shoulder.

"Hey Natalie, what are you doing?" Nikki asks.

"I'm just watching the sharks and the dolphins," Natalie answers. Her arms rest on her lap.

"Isn't it boring, though?" Nikki asks, looking at the sea creatures.

"True, but I don't really mind it," Natalie tells her with a sigh. She leans backward with her two hands resting on the ground.

"Hey Natalie?" Nikki asks, and Natalie closes her eyes and takes a deep breath.

"What is it?" Natalie asks, sitting back up.

"Have you ever wondered what's out there in the real world?" Nikki asks, and Natalie shrugs her shoulders.

"Sometimes, but not all the time," Natalie tells her before they go into a comfortable silence. Natalie reopens her eyes and looks at the ocean with Nikki.

After a couple minutes of silence between them, Nikki decides to start a conversation.

"I know you weren't planning to leave this island, but I was wondering we could leave and explore the world," Nikki mentions. Natalie looks over with a questioning look.

"Since when did you start thinking about leaving?" Natalie questions her friend.

"I have been thinking for quite some time about leaving..." Nikki tells her with a sigh. "...But what do you think?"

"I don't know, Nikki. We have no idea what's out there," Natalie says, unsure about leaving the island.

"Come on, Natalie! It would be a great adventure for us! We could learn new things!" Nikki tries to convince her to go out there and explore.

"I know it's interesting to learn new things, but don't forget that I'm a demon. There are humans out there in the real world. I don't even think they like demons," Natalie explains, looking miserable at the thought of humans.

"Why does this world have to be full of humans?" Nikki complains. Natalie just shrugs her shoulder.

"Beats me," Natalie says, leaning backward again. Nikki decides to sit on Natalie's lap.

"You know something? I was wondering if there is any other demon besides you," Nikki asks.

"I've been wondering the same thing," Natalie agrees with her eagle friend.
