What is anxiety?
Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be big or small,
everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life. For example, you may feel worried and anxious about an upcoming test or exam, or having a medical test or job interview or even something small like going out on weekends. During times like these, feeling anxious is perfectly normal! All the best people get anxiety, but some people find it hard to control their worries, their feelings of anxiety are more constant and can often affect their daily lives.
Here are some ways that may help:
Try some breathing exercises and calming down methods
Breathing exercises can help you cope and feel more in control, try some easy breathing methods, like the box breathing method. Breathe in for 4 seconds....hold for 4 seconds....breathe out for 4 seconds...hold for 4 seconds...and repeat, see its easy! Or use the 4, 7, 8 method, this one may feel a bit more difficult just breath in for 4 seconds....hold for 7.......and breathe out for 8........There we go! You can also try doing the butterfly method to calm down, cross your arms over your chest so your hands are on the opposite shoulder, so left hand on the right shoulder and right hand on the left, then slowly begin to tap your shoulders 1 by 1, left then right then left again, try and take deep breaths whilst doing this.
Talk to someone you trust
Talking to someone you trust about what's making you anxious can be a biiiiiig help. It may be that just having someone listen to you and show they care can help in itself. If you don't have anyone available to talk to I am always here for a chat! (Obviously within my active times)
Keep a diary!
It often helps to make a note of what happens when you get anxious or have a panic attack. This can help you spot patterns in what triggers these experiences for you. You could also make a note of what's going well. Living with anxiety can mean you think a lot about things that worry you or are hard to do. It's important to be kind to yourself and notice the good things too. So take a few minutes out your day to write, write about all the silly things, what you ate for breakfast, what time you got up, what you did during the day blah blah blah.
Get good sleep
This is often a big one, but get some sleep my friend! Don't stay up too late staring at a screen! You need to be getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep, so try and keep track of what time you go to bed and wake up.
Just remember if you are every worried or anxious about anything always talk to someone, anyyyyyone at all.
