The streets of the city were absolutely bustling with life. Men and women walked by with quick steps, their bags swung by and hit other passersby. Turns out a lot of waiting for the day before Christmas Eve to buy gifts.
Koning stayed close behind you, hunched in on himself. Usually, you would have to be pushing and shoving your way through the crowd just to make it a few steps forward. This time, the sea of people parted just for you. You had a feeling it had something to do with the hunk of man less than a foot behind you.
You were looking for Christmas decorations, After much discussion that mostly consisted of König telling you what you're doing and much less of actual debating and considering other sides. Although you had a feeling you probably couldn't find much.
Despite having put his foot down about shopping König looked like he would rather be doing anything else. Anything else.
You had mercy on him, You pulled him into the nearest warehouse shop. A rather large one that was bound to have not many people, and even if they did they would be spread out. You knew he had social anxiety and you hoped this store might help him a bit.
It was mostly cleared out but in one of the aisles, you could see some festive-looking decorations in green and red. You headed there, you assumed König would follow you there too.
You were right. There were barely any decorations left. Just some green and silver tinsel. You wrapped it around your neck like a scarf, as if you hadn't grabbed a court. Some lady in the aisle smiled at you, you smiled back. You turned around to tell König that you should move on to the next aisle but as his name was halfway out your lips you realized he wasn't there.
He was nowhere to be seen. Not in this aisle nor the other. He was gone. Did simply finding some tinsel bring back both of your Christmas spirits Or rather he took the first chance he could to bolt.
You didn't blame him. You would have done the same thing. It's of no real damage to you, the only reason you were even bothered with it was because that stupid Christmas spirit angel thing decided you needed a little bit of spice in your life.
Even though it's of no detriment to you, you couldn't help but feel a little sad. Standing all alone in that aisle, with stupid tinsel wrapped around your neck. He really just left, just like that. Didn't say goodbye. Even though you kind of saved his life. (The saving was more freaking out and eventually passing out but who's paying attention to details?)
You unwrapped the tinsel from your neck, the rough material scraped and scratched at your skin. You left it half haphazardly hanging on a random hook.
You wanted to go home. Home to your little house, without Christmas decorations and strange fictional characters. You'll crawl into your bed and pray you don't wake up with a pyramid head standing over you.
You buy a single pack of gum, spearmint flavor, the worst one, and unsurprisingly the only one left. You don't even want it. But you buy it so you don't feel awkward walking out the doors empty-handed.
You bought it so you stuffed two pieces into your mouth as you exited the large revolving door, because one piece is never enough.
You chew it as different people pass by you. You watch them for a bit, the families that pass by, tiny children pointing at the lights as they illuminate their little faces, some girl walking a pitbull wearing a Santa hat.
The wind bustled and blew around you,it whipped your hair around and embedded tiny little snowflakes that would melt within seconds into it.
You put a couple of dollars into the red bucket of a man in a Santa costume and headed on your (not)merry way. You get all the way down the street when you hear a familiar voice behind you.
