Rocket had a long day fighting those creepy aliens attacking some pink townsfolk with his crew: lifelong friend Groot, the whistle-wielding Kraglin, the space dog Cosmo, the nearly invincible Adam Warlock, his pet Blurp, and Phyla, a Star Child rescued by Drax, Nebula and Mantis from the High Evolutionary when he attacked Knowhere just about a few weeks ago. Speaking of which, they happened to land on Knowhere led by Nebula and Drax, the adoptive parents of the Star Children. Basically, Phyla's adoptive mom and dad. Once they got off their ship, Drax was waiting for them with a tiny box.
Rocket: Drax! How ya doing, ya big tattooed psychopath?
Drax: (does his famous laugh) I'm doing fine, Rocket.
Rocket: (to Kraglin) Hey, Krag. Take Cosmo, Adam and Blurp with you on your walk. They could use the exercise. I'm serious.
Kraglin: Aye, Cap'n.
Cosmo: Yay! (cheers in Russian)
Rocket: What's with the box? I thought you were supposed to look after my kids!
Drax: What kids? I saw three tiny, untouched copies of you and I thought that some hideous monster duplicated you and transported the copies here so I captured them with this box.
Rocket: THEY WERE MY KIDS!!!! I told you to keep them safe and what do you do?! PUT THEM IN A BOX!!!
Drax: I was thinking of something else when you said that before you left. That's why I didn't hear that.
Rocket: Ugh. Look, are they alive? They better not have suffocated in that box. (Whimpering from inside box) Drax. Hand me the doggone box.
Drax reluctantly hands Rocket the box and walks off to escort Phylla to somewhere she wants to go.
Drax: Don't come happy to me when you realize those are actually copies of you.
Rocket: It's "don't come crying to me", pal. Have fun, Phyla.
Phyla: Thanks, Rocket! I enjoy being a Guardian!
Rocket does a slight smile as he opens the box. He's very glad to know that all occupants of Drax's box were alive. There was three in the box. Two boys and a female. Once he reached inside the room where he last saw Quill and Mantis, where the original Guardians split up, he placed the box on the table he sat at and releases his adoptive children. He saved these three and lots of other raccoon pups from cages in the High Evolutionary's ship. He wants them to not have the same life as he did, being experimented on and being in illegal surgeries. But he also wants to listen to them when they get older because he never met another raccoon, so he's not sure if he speaks it. The smallest boy goes for Rocket's left hand and snuggles it. Rocket loved it. Then the other two started joining in. He then started playing with them, tickling them, and playing the classic "peekaboo" game with young kids. Groot and Kraglin were watching.
Groot: I am Groot. (That's adorable)
Kraglin: I know. Reminds me of when Yondu first picked up Peter from Terra. Minus the little thing with the eyes (he was talking about the "peekaboo" thing), Yondu started playing around with Quill a bit. (Rocket notices them, and walks over with the three pups on his shoulders)
Rocket: Okay, laugh all you want. Everybody's got a soft side.
Groot: I am Groot. (We won't laugh)
Rocket: Well thanks, Groot. Hey, could you GENTLY carry these guys to my room? (Groot nods) Great because I also want you to make a tiny bed that would fit all three of them while I talk with Kraglin for a bit.
