"The Stranger"

NYRA FORBES was born on the 17th January 1993 on a cold, stormy night. It was one of the worst storms that the city of New Orleans had ever seen, but a bright young girl was born from the worst of storms. This baby had kind, loving and protective parents who would've given their daughter the world, would've died for her... And unfortunately, that is what their life came to mere months after the birth of their daughter.

Masked individuals came to the home of Nyra's biological parents during the month of August with one task on their minds— to eliminate the remainder of a powerful lineage. Nyra remained fast asleep as her parents fought to survive, fought to keep her alive and she was only awoken by the loud thuds of her parents bodies hitting the floor. The baby with bright eyes and beautiful platinum locks screamed at the top of her lungs, which alerted the intruders to her whereabouts.

Nyra was soon found in her cot, tears streaming down her cheeks and her eyes wide with confusion and fear. The leader of the masked individuals took the first steps towards the last remainder of the bloodline they were trying to wipe out and whilst it brought horror and sickness to her, the leader knew that this had to be done. Nyra's bloodline had stretched back to a time where records were rarely kept, and where the creatures that you read to your children roamed the Earth. Their bloodline was an abomination to nature and it had to be dealt with... even if that meant the death of an innocent child. But as the leader lifted the blade above Nyra's small chest, she stopped. Her brown eyes widened in shock and terror as a hand was thrust out of her chest, her beating heart held in the palm of their hand. The leader was able to look down at her heart before her eyes rolled into the back of her head. The hand was thrust backwards and the leader fell to the ground with a careless thud, showcasing the man stood behind her with her bloody heart still in his hand.

The masked individuals froze at the scene, watching as the man discarded their leader's heart on top of her lifeless body without a single care, licking the blood from his fingers as he stared them in the eyes.

"Who's next?"

The masked individuals shook themselves from their shock and hid their fear, immediately throwing themselves into a battle that would cost them all their lives. When one tried to overpower this man, one would die. This man was too strong for them, even with the abilities that they held. Where they were told that they would get help if this baby were to die... it was all one big lie and the final remaining man alive realised this as he watched all of his friends die, and as he watched veins sprout from underneath this man's eyes as he approached him, like a lion would a gazelle. The man closed his eyes and accepted his fate, not putting up a fight once the man thrust his hand into his chest and pulled out his beating heart, squashing it in his hand.

The stranger was overcome with his anger, but he was soon shook from his overwhelming anger at the soft cries coming from the cradle beside him. He turned and his eyes landed on the small baby, who stared up at him with an unknown glint in her eyes, one that shouldn't be seen on a child that was mere months old... a look that said that she understood why he killed all these people. This baby held such understanding in her unusually coloured eyes, so much so that this stranger debated on taking her in as his own to raise as his daughter... yet he couldn't. New Orleans was far from safe and with his sire being the King and out to get rid of people like Nyra's family who could challenge his power, it would not end up good for either of them.

And so, the stranger took the baby to the safest orphanage he knew and he made sure that this child was adopted by the best couple... and this only took a few months. He watched as Elizabeth and Bill Forbes walked into the orphanage with hopeful expressions, he watched as they began to bond with the young baby and he watched as they finally adopted the baby— Nyra. A strange name that had been unheard of for the stranger, but he couldn't deny that it fit her.

Over the years, this stranger made sure to keep tabs on Nyra and he never failed in checking up on her on her birthday. He would always do so, even if it did raise suspicion amongst his sire and the rest of the vampires. He had saved this child and he felt a surge of responsibility towards her, not even his sire could stop that. But then vampires came to the town of Mystic Falls and to keep her safe, the stranger kept his distance and eventually the city of New Orleans began to get too busy for him to leave. Nyra was alone, not that she knew, of course.

Yet, she still had family that would kill for her, and that she would kill for to protect them. Even in another life, Nyra had people that cared for her... and now she had a sister that would do absolutely anything to keep her safe and Nyra finally understood the feeling to have a sibling— a sister that she always wished to have. And when a certain someone came to town, Nyra finally felt like she was complete, like she knew this stranger and that he knew her. Yet, not everything was as simple as she wanted it to be, not when it came to the supernatural and definitely not when it came to her bloodline.
