A Few Of Weeks Later

I invited Rhea and Zuri over, the air was thick with gossip and the scent of wine. We sat in my living room, our conversation flowing as freely as the wine in our glasses.

"Let me tell you about this somewhat lunch date I had with Aubrey, a few weeks ago." I started, the memory still vivid in my mind. "Even with Chubbs there, it felt kinda romantic. Aubrey kept sending me these flirty smiles ."

Rhea raised an eyebrow. "Girl that man really wants you!"

"Yeah, but then those photos of him and Joelle came out last week. Looking all happy," I said, a frown creasing my forehead. "Makes me wonder what's really going on."

Zuri took a sip of her wine. "Don't always trust what you see in pictures, Malaika. They don't tell the whole story."

I nodded, but doubt lingered. "I just hate how Joelle called me a whore. Any other time, I would've confronted her, but I didn't want to make things worse for Aubrey."

Rhea shook her head. "I'm shocked that you didn't! You know I would have beat her ass right in front of Aubrey."

" Oh I know you would've." I replied.

We talked more, dissecting every detail of the lunch and the situation with Aubrey. As the evening wore on, I felt a mix of frustration and confusion. It was then that my phone buzzed with a text.

I glanced at the screen, my heart skipping a beat. It was from Aubrey: "I need to see you."

The text sent a jolt through me, and I showed it to Rhea and Zuri. "Look at this."

Zuri leaned over, reading the message. "Girl, what are you gonna do?"

I bit my lip, uncertain. "I don't know. Part of me wants to see him, but another part is just so confused."

Rhea placed a hand on my shoulder. " If you don't go on to your man and fuck him good tonight ..."

" Rhea! She definitely doesn't need to be giving him any right now. Just meet up and spend some time with him. It's obviously you miss him." She says. I chuckled, of course Rhea would say that.

The night was getting late, and the weight of the decision pressed on me. Seeing Aubrey could mean stepping into more uncertainty, but avoiding him wasn't going to answer the questions swirling in my mind.

As the evening waned, and Rhea and Zuri left, I found myself alone with my thoughts, contemplating my next move. Aubrey's text, a simple message, seemed to hold so much weight, so much unspoken promise and uncertainty.

Then, my phone rang, and Aubrey's voice came through, filled with an emotion I couldn't quite place. "Malaika, Baby. How are you?"

"Good, and you?" I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
