Kindled Fire

Chapter 1: Opening day

It was a warm summer afternoon, Gwen had just pulled her car into the camp councilor's rocky parking spot, kicking up clouds of dust while she drove in. David waked out of the cabin with his yellow this scarf tied lightly around his neck, his tan vest flapping lightly in the breeze. Under that he had a dark sage green T-shirt with a little tree, and dark tan cargo shorts. 

"Hi Gwen!! Ready to start another amazing summer?" He smiled at her as she stepped out of her car. She glanced up at him, and smiled back.

"Another year of shitty chaos? I guess." Gwen said, walking into the cabin with her two bags, and plopping them down on her bed. She sighed, and picked up her uniform, headed to the bathroom and swiftly changed into the same outfit as David, minus the scarf and vest. She ran out just in time to see the bus rolling in, and a crowd of kids come. She slid her eyes from side to side, counting the kids, while David welcomed them and led them to the tents. She gazed upon the bus, hoping to find someone. Gwen ran to the bus, asking the quartermaster something.

"Will there be another round of kids?" Gwen asked franticly, glancing around the bus.

"Uh yeah, sure." The quartermaster grumbled before driving off into the sunny hills. Gwen sat there, silent until she felt a tap. She turned her head to see David, a smile plastered on his face.

"Gwen, you alright?" He held his hand out and helped her up off the ground, letting her brush the dry dirt off. 

"I'm fine David. We should get back to the kids." She sighed before slumping off into the camp, where little kids greeted her cheerfully. As David rounded them up, explaining what the plans were for the day, a bus came to a short squeaky stop. Gwen perked up and ran over, as the doors swung open, max stepped off, with Neil and Niki behind him. All the kids stoped, and seemed to be mesmerized by them. As they take a step to the side, the rest of the gang pile out. Nerf, dom, Harrison, space kid, and everyone else. David stares in shock as Gwen face creep into a smile.

"GWEN???" max yells, looking a Gwen with a smirk.

"You shithead!" Gwen chuckled, while s ruffing up Max's hair. Niki ran out from behind max, making him tumble over.

"NIKI WHAT THE FUCK??" Max screamed at her, brushing himself off before scurrying after her, yelling. Neil followed after them, yelling at max. Gwen glanced at David and saw he had a huge smile, his eyes lighting up. Gwen blushed at David's goofy smile, covering her face and turning away. She walked back to the mess hall, all the kids following her. As she sat everyone down, she explained some rules, planing, and activities. She glanced at David who was slightly blushing.

"Foods ready" the quartermaster mumbled, leaving out trays of burgers and handing them out to kids. Max, Niki, and Neil bursted into the mess hall, scrambling into line for a burger. The kids all sat down at the same table as always, however it wasn't just Max Neil and Niki this time, Nerf had joined them, then Erin, then Harrison, then all the group was fitted at one whole table, discussing old shenanigans they had committed the last summer. Gwen walked over to the table and sat down with them, chatting about future activities, and past events. David glanced over and saw a big grin on Gwen, he had never seen Gwen like this, this was new. He blushed at this sight, quickly hiding his face in his hands and Gwen glanced over. She grinned seeing David flustered. Max glanced at the two, knowing what was going on. His mischievous mind started running with ideas. He suggested Gwen go help David clean up as the other campers go and play in the woods. Gwen didn't catch the hint, and thought that Max's idea was a half decent one, walking over to David, while max got the campers out of the mess hall.

"What's up with them?" Niki asked max, who was peeking through a window.

"They're definitely in love with each other." Max grinned, watching the two young adults awkwardly clean up while chatting. Max smiled an evil grin, turning to Niki and Niel.

"Oh no, I know that look max.. what's going on.." Neil crossed his arms, as he tapped his foot.

"We should try to get them together over the summer!" Max said, a devious grin across his smug face. He looked through the window once more before facing the two.

"I have just the right Idea." He chuckled smugly, before leading the trio into the woods to plan.
