No one really knew how the fall started. There were doctors and scientists trying to treat The Death-lock Virus which was already dangerous enough. It sent the subject who had it into a coma and after three to four months the subject's bodily systems would fail, sending them into death. It affected animals and humans. No one really escaped from Death-lock. Once you had it you were gone and there wasn't any known cure.

That was true until doctors started working on a cure to try and take people out of their comas. It took years. The Death-lock Virus' death toll began to grow uncontrollably, mostly affecting those with poor immune systems. The death toll really began to spike when The Death-lock Virus began spreading across the homeless and lower class communities. By then, the hospitals were being filled with patients and panicking family members, willing to do anything to help their loved ones.

Once the death toll reached over 50,000 across the span of four years, the government finally released the cure that they had been working on for over six years, since 2099. The hospitals started administering the vaccines to all the people The Death-lock Virus had claimed but not yet killed.

And, of course, people started to come back! But not in the way anyone wanted. The Claimed had started waking and attacking. They didn't stop for anything, murdering anything that moved. Doctors managed to stop giving out the vaccines in certain places once they heard about what was happening around the world. One brave doctor from Canada managed to catch one of The Claimed that had been given the vaccine.

"Subject A has extreme violence towards humans. It's pacing around its containment unit. We're glad it can't see us otherwise we'd probably be dead. Subject's veins seem to be swelling, popping out from beneath the skin. Subject's eyes are completely white, the iris and pupil seem to have disappeared." He had noted. They had shared his findings from that day on a world-wide broadcast as soon as the government had the chance to look the recording over. The government only wanted the people to see certain things. They were trying to control everybody's fear.

"Subject seems to be growing taller. We're estimating around seven feet by now. We've seen three feet of growth so far. Subject's teeth appear to be sharper, almost like fangs. The skin is decaying rather quickly and its nails are growing rather sharp as well. The hair is falling out in clumps. A deep purple pus is coming

out of the Subject's skin. It looks almost like purple blood."

And that was all the people had gotten to hear. The government hadn't wanted people to hear the rest of the recording, They didn't want anybody alive to hear the screams after The Claimed subject had escaped from the cell.

As soon as the hospitals had realized what had happened they tried to evacuate so the military could board up the hospitals. Most of the time they were too late and the military boarded them up with the people still inside, leaving them to find for themselves against The Claimed that would soon be waking up.

The hospitals in the current day were a No-Mans land. The huge Climbers that infested the dark hospitals made the much needed medical supplies seem far less important once a few people had made the wrong mistake of going into the hospitals. There wasn't a way to get into the hospitals without getting torn apart so eventually—after many mistakes—people just stopped trying.

The Grids definitely helped people, well the people who got into the Grids were helped. Sometimes if there were too many people trying to get into a Grid they would only allow the Grid's apartments to be filled up before transporting the others to an unknown location and just slaughter all of them. It was a horrible process but no one could really say anything about it.

The Grids often helped people with their lifestyles as drugs, alcohol, and other forms of what could be things leading to dangerous addictions were prohibited. But people just found ways to hide whatever they traded for.

The new world was a place where you had to fight for everything and earn what the military thought you deserved. You either killed or got killed. And that's just the way things were now.

There was nothing anyone could do about it.
